Chapter 33
During her years with the Farrows, the only elder who genuinely cared for Serena was Justin’s grandmother, Beatrice Elordi. She had been in poor health for as long as Serena could remember.
A few years ago, she moved into a nursing home surrounded by scenic views. Despite the distance, Beatrice never missed sending
Serena a birthday gift each year.
Serena stood still for a moment before ending the call.
Wilson noticed her change in demeanor. “What’s wrong?”
Serena answered hesitantly, “Mr. Quade, something’s come up. Can we take a rain check on dinner?” Beatrice’s health had been declining steadily over the past two years. Serena feared this might be her last chance to see her. She couldn’t bear the thought of
living with that regret.
But today was wilenn’s birthday too, a day that only came once a year.

Wilson’s calm voice interrupted her thoughts. “It’s alright. Where do you need to go? I’ll drive you.”
Serena was surprised. “You’re not mad?”
He gripped the steering wheel with one hand, his expression unreadable. “Not at all. Sure, you bailed on celebrating my birthday
after promising, but I’m not upset. I’m a very forgiving person.”
Serena remained silent. He was clearly annoyed.

Following Serena’s directions, Wilson pulled up in front of the Farrow residence. His sharp gaze lingered on the sprawling realization dawned. “Now it all makes sense. No wonder the route felt familiar. So, that call earlier- was it from Justin?”
Serena nodded. “Yes.”
Without another word, Wilson unlocked the car. “Go on.”

Serena opened the car door and got out. But then, as an afterthought, she went back and knocked on the car window.
Wilson was lighting a cigarette when a knock sounded on the window. He tilted his head slightly, the faint glow from the lighter
illuminating his chiseled features and casting fleeting shadows that accentuated their angles.
Lowering his window, he asked, “What’s wrong?”
“I’m not here because of Justin,” she explained. “Mrs. Farrow Senior is unwell, and she’s always been kind to me. I’m just
worried about her. I’ll leave as soon as I’ve seen her.”
She didn’t want Wilson to misunderstand her intentions of think that she was betraying

With that, Serena turned and walked toward the residence.
Justin was waiting at the Farrow’s residence entrance. He checked his watch every so often, his posture impatient as if
anticipating someone. When he spotted her, his brows furrowed tightly. He scoffed, “I thought you wouldn’t show up. At least you’ve got a shred of conscience left.”
“Where’s Mrs. Farrow Senior?” she asked.
“In her room,” Justin replied curtly.

Without another word, Serena brushed past him, leaving him standing there alone.
She knew the house well and went directly to Beatrice’s room. The door was slightly ajar, and through the gap, she saw Jenna sitting by the bedside, speaking to Beatrice. “Mom, why do you still care about Serena? That ingrate! The Farrow family raised her, and she just up and left the company like it was nothing. No loyalty whatsoever!”
Beatrice’s expression darkened. “Don’t you dare speak about Rina like e that! She’s a good, kind child. If she left, she must’ve had
her reasons.”
“People change. And let’s not forget that she’s not even a Farrow. She’s just the housekeeper’s daughter. Why waste your energy on her?” Jenna retorted.
“She grew up in this family. She’s well–behaved and sensible. To me, she’s no different from my own granddaughter. And when she marries Justin, she’ll officially be part of the family,” Beatrice said firmly.
Jenna frowned. “How could she possibly be good enough for Justin?”
Beatrice’s voice rose. “Why wouldn’t she be? Tell me, where in this city could you find a woman as outstanding as Rina?”
Outside the door, Serena pressed her lips together tightly before knocking and entering.
