Chapter 29
Serena’s expression almost faltered. Once they were out of earshot, she could not help but whisper, “Mr. Quade, why didn’t you deny it?”
Wilson raised a brow and replied, “Did you see how much that young woman idolized the idea of a perfect love story? How could I crush her dream like that?”
“Well, in the future… maybe don’t make jokes like that again,” she said with a sigh.
Wilson’s faint smile faded slightly at that. “Alright.”
Serena kept her head lowered, completely missing the subtle drop in his mood.
Afterward, they headed to the doctor’s office, where she underwent a thorough examination. Just as she had expected, everything was fine. Then, they visited a few more departments, but the results were the same–nothing wrong.
When Serena came out, she found Wilson leaning against the wall, flipping through her medical reports one by one. His slightly tousled hair fell over his forehead, adding a trace of melancholy to his otherwise striking features.
Several passersby could not resist sneaking glances at him.
Serena walked over and said, “Mr. Quade, see? I told you I’m fine.”
“Yeah,” he said, folding the reports neatly. “The results look great–looks like you’ll live to be a hundred.”
He tucked the documents under his arm and added, “Let’s go.”
Serena trailed behind him as they made their way down the hallway. They had not gone far when a familiar couple appeared ahead.
Justin was walking stiffly, frowning as if he were in pain. Meanwhile, Candice clung to his arm, fussing over him.
“Justin, I told you yesterday not to drink so much! You really can’t keep doing this,” she chided gently.
Justin suddenly stopped in his tracks, his gaze locking onto something or someone.
Candice followed his line of sight. When her eyes landed on Serena, her expression froze for a moment before softening into a practiced sanile. She said sweetly, “Serena, Mr. Quade, what a coincidence to see you two here.”
Serena did not spare her a glance and instead turned to Wilson. “Mr. Quade, shall we?”
“Sure,” Wilson replied, leading her away without hesitation
Serena kept her focus forward, treating Justin like he was invisible.
“Stop!” Justin’s deep voice called out. “Serena, I need to talk to you
However, Serena did not break her stride. In fact, she quickened her pace to stay closer to Wilson

Justin’s patience snapped, and he strode after her. He shouted as he reached out to grab her arm, “Serena!”
Before he could touch her, Wilson swiftly pulled her behind him, his gaze icy as he stared Justin down. His tone was dangerously calm as he questioned Justin, “Serena is now mine. What do you think you’re doing?”
“Mine?” Justin repeated, his voice laced with disbelief.
Wilson’s words seemed to hit a nerve. His gaze flicked to Serena, who remained indifferent.
Serene merely replied flatly, “I’m Mr. Quade’s assistant now. Of course, that makes me part of Quade Group.”
Justin’s jaw tightened. He looked as though he had just been dealt another heavy blow.
Candice hurried over and wrapped her arms tightly around his. “Justin, your stomach’s acting up again–you’re in so much pain. Let’s go see the doctor, okay?”
“Not yet.” The..
yet,” Justin replied coldly, standing straighter as if his discomfort had magically vanished. His piercing gaze shifted back to
Serena.
“Since we’ve run into each other,” he began, his tone sharp, “I need to ask you something. Did you really get into an argument
with Candice and throw a cake at her?”
“That did happen,” Serena admitted matter–of–factly.
Justin’s brows furrowed deeply. “What were you thinking?”
“She ran her mouth, so I taught her a lesson,” Serena replied without a hint of regret.
“Candice’s young–she
e doesn’t know any better. Even if she said something unpleasant, that’s no excuse to bully her!”
Justin’s eyes narrowed as a flicker of amusement danced in them. “Or was it something else? Did the idea of Candice opening her own bakery strike a nerve? Or could it be something more personal?”
Serena pressed her lips together.
“There’s no other reason,” she mumbled. Yet, she had never been good at lying, and her expression gave her away immediately.
Justin saw through her in an instant, and a smug sense of satisfaction washed over h
him–she had not moved on. The
heard he was helping Candice open a bakery, she had lost control.
“Apologize,” Justin demanded, his tone low as he locked eyes with her. “Apologize to Candice.”
Serena met his gaze, her lips parting as she prepared to speak, but Wilson turned to her.

“Ms. Judd, are you ignoring your superior’s orders now?” Wilson asked, his tone calm but unyielding. “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it. I’ll be right behind you.”
Something in his steady gaze reassured her. Serena hesitated but eventually nodded, “Alright.”
She turned and walked off, leaving Justin’s face darkening with every step. He glared at Wilson and asked, “What’s t
this, Wilson? Are you planning to apologize on her behalf?”
Wilson’s cold gaze

ot over him, and he flashed a mocking smirk. “Did you leave your brain at home today? Me? Apologize? Your little sidekick should start by groveling in front of Serena, and then I might consider entertaining your idiotic request.”
Justin gritted his teeth. “Wilson!”
“This is a hospital,” Wilson replied, his tone dripping with sarcasm. “Show some class. And don’t with her means messing with me.”

Justin’s eyes flickered with surprise before they narrowed in anger. “You’ve really fallen for her, haven’t you?”
Wilson did not answer. Instead, he stepped closer, his presence radiating an overwhelming sense of authority.
After a moment, Wilson’s expression shifted into a knowing smile. “What’s the matter? Regretting something?”
“Regret what?” Justin shot back, his voice tight.
Wilson did not bother replying. He let out a soft scoff, his disdain evident, and then turned on his heel. With his hands in his pockets, he simply said, “Go deal with your health issues.”
Justin’s chest felt tight with frustration. He wanted to chase after Wilson, but a sharp pain twisted in his stomach, forcing him to
nearly drop to one knee.
Candice grabbed his arm in alarm. ”
“Justin, don’t! You’re in pain! You need to see a doctor now!”
Reluctantly, Justin let her lead him toward the doctor, his expression stormy.
In the parking lot, Wilson approached his Bentley and spotted Serena sitting quietly in the passenger seat, her lashes lowered as
if she were lost in thought. He knocked on the c
window lightly, pulling her out of her reverie,
“Mr. Quade,” Serena said, her gaze scanning him from head to toe before she breathed a sigh of relief. “You’re okay, right?”
“I’m fine What, did you think I’d get into a fistfight with Justin?”
Serena stayed silent, though she felt that was not entirely out impossible.
“Well, either way, I’m fine,” Wilson reassured her. “But Justin? Not so much.”
He walked around to the driver’s side, opened the door, and slid in “He’s probably fuming right about now.”
Serena could not help but laugh at his remark. Wilson truly had a way with words–sharp enough to cut without drawing blood.
