Chapter 20
Wilson said, “You’re incredibly capable, I know, but this isn’t urgent. You treat yourself like some kind of Iron Woman, but I don’t want my best team member burning out.”
“Alright, I’ll head over tomorrow.”
“See you tomorrow.”
After hanging up, Serena found herself lost in thought. Over the years, she had grown used to working her ass off. Justin never cared about her, and she barely took care of herself.
Now, being at Quade Group, where someone actually cared about her well–being, it felt like leaving Farrow Corporation might
have been the right decision.
It was still early, and Serena was not in a rush to head back. She texted Willow instead.
“Willow, what kind of food does Mr. Quade like?”
The answer she received caught her off guard. “Desserts.”
Serena decided to stop by a nearby mall, where a cake shop she liked was located. The place had always been one of her favorites,
and she often visited.
Before working as Justin’s assistant, Serena had once dreamed of owning her own bakery. The creamy aroma of freshly made
cakes could fill her with happiness.
She had even shared this dream with Justin back then, and he would always reply with a cheerful smile, saying, “Go for it. It’s just
a bakery. If you want, I can fund ten of them.”
Serena had taken him seriously and spent days visiting different bakeries in Nocturna before choosing a boutique brand called Indigo. Excited, she went back to Justin to share her choice, only for him to brush her off.
“Let’s talk about it after this busy period,” he said. However, that “busy period” never ended.
At the time, Serena thought he had forgotten. However, after thinking about it, she realized she had brought him cakes from Indigo nearly every week. Hence, there was no way he could not remember; he just did not care.
When she arrived at the mall, Serena headed straight to Indigo.
The shop assistant recognized her immediately and asked, “Ms. Judd, will you be dining in and taking one to–go again?”
“I’ll just take one to–go this time,” Serena replied. “Oh, and can you have a cake delivered to my office tomorrow around noon?”
“Of course! Just leave us the address”
As Serena gave the address to the staff, a group of people came down the stairs from the second floor. Among them was the
manager of the cake shop and Candice

Candice looked completely different from before. She was dressed in an elegant designer suit and carried a brand–new LV
handbag. A well–groomed assistant trailed behind her, and she looked every bit the polished, glamorous woman.
“Serena, what a coincidence!” Candice greeted her with a smile.
Serena merely gave her a calm nod. “Yeah.”
“What brings you here? Buying cake?” Candice stepped closer, her voice overly friendly.
By then, Serena’s takeout order was ready. As the staff handed her the box, Candice reached out and snatched it without
hesitation.
Serena’s expression hardened. “What are you doing?”
Candice smiled sweetly, pretending to be harmless. “Serena, it’s been days since we last saw each other. Don’t you have anything
you want to ask me?”
Serena’s tone stayed cold. “We’re not close, so I don’t think there’s much to say.”
“That’s so distant of you,” Candice said with mock innocence. “After all, you’ve worked by Justin’s side for years. As his girlfriend, I should at least thank you for taking care of him.”
Only an idiot would miss her sarcastic tone.
“If you’re here to show off, don’t bother,” Serena replied flatly. “Justin and I have nothing to do with each other anymore, and I’m not interested in your relationship.”
“Oh, come on, Serena. We’re both women. Do you really expect me to believe you’re fine pretending Justin is just some stranger after liking him for so many years?”
as not something
ing you could erase overnight.
A stranger? Of course not. After all, 19 years was
However, this time, Serena was done. She had made up her mind–there was no going back. She looked Candice directly in the eye, her calm composure unshaken.
“Does Justin know what kind of person you are?”
Candice blinked “What do you mean?”
“The kind of person who plays innocent while stabbing people in the back,” Serena said with a faint smile.
Candice’s face froze for a moment, but her forced smile quickly faded into a mocking smirk
“You like my outfit? Or my bag? Justin bought them for me,” she said, her tone sharp and smug. “He gave me a black card and told me not to hold back on spoiling myself”
Candice leaned in slightly, her voice dripping with scom “You’ve worked for Justin for years, yet you’re still renting an apartment Don’t you think that’s just sad?”
