Chapter 20

Emilio’s voice was not loud, but it carried a sense of calm and certainty.
Silvano sneered and looked Emilio up and down, his eyes full of contempt.
“What are you? How dare you interfere in my business?”
“I was her husband,” Emilio said calmly, but with a firm tone.
Silvano seemed to have heard a joke, his lips curled up in a smirk as he cast a disdainful glance at Emilio.
“Husband? You? Just a working-class person, with an ordinary status, what can you offer her? She just temporarily found you to act in a play, and you actually took it seriously?”
His words were sharp and sarcastic, with no attempt to conceal the mockery.
Emilio’s face darkened, and he looked at him with cold eyes. Just as he was about to speak, he was shielded by Mad- dalena standing in front of him.
“Silvano, you are not welcome here. My husband, I do not need anyone’s judgment.” Her tone was calm, yet strong.
“He respected me and cared for me, even though he was a beggar, I was content. Even if you were as rich as a country and admired by everyone, in my heart, not even his little finger could compare to him!”
Every word from Maddalena felt like a sharp sword, stabbing fiercely into his heart.
Silvano’s face was pale, his lips trembling, but he couldn’t say a word.
Maddalena was holding Emilio’s arm.
“Mr. Cavanna, please leave now. My husband and I were going to soak in the hot springs. I don’t really like having outsiders around.”
She looked at Silvano calmly, as if she were looking at a stranger, a completely unfamiliar stranger.
Silvano was almost being driven crazy by such a look. He took a step forward, wanting to say something, but was grabbed by the wrist by Emilio.
“Mr. Cavanna, I believe you have heard clearly what my wife said, haven’t you? You are not welcome here, so please show some respect!”
Emilio’s voice was cold, with a hint of warning.
Silvano struggled to shake off Emilio’s hand, but found it as immovable as a pair of iron tongs.
“You let go of me! Who do you think you are, daring to talk to me like this?” Silvano roared in disbelief.

Emilio pushed him away, causing Silvano to stagger back a few steps, almost falling to the ground. He held his in- jured wrist and glared at Emilio with resentment in his eyes.
“Did you dare to hit me!”
Emilio sneered and cast a cold, indifferent glance over Silvano.
“Hit you? It was just to give you a little lesson.” His tone was cold and his attitude indifferent. “If you dare to bother Maddalena again, I guarantee you will regret it.”
Silvano looked into Emilio’s cold eyes and felt a hint of fear rising in his heart.
He instinctively turned his head away, afraid to meet Emilio’s gaze again.
Emilio took the opportunity to protect Maddalena behind him.
“Maddy, this place is dirty, let’s go find another hot spring to soak in.” His tone was gentle, and his eyes were full of indulgence.
Maddalena nodded and followed Emilio out directly.
Silvano stood still, watching the backs of the two people leaving, his eyes full of unwillingness, but he sensibly did not chase after them.
Maddalena’s cold gaze made him hesitant to act rashly.
He did not want Maddalena to look at him with that kind of gaze.
