Chapter 9
Before I could speak, he got mad first.
“Are you following me?”
I felt both annoyed and amused.
“Yeah, I knew you’d come to the hospital, so I changed and hid here to wait for you.”
My sarcasm was clear, leaving Colin speechless.
At that moment, Selena’s eyes welled up.
“Ms. Jackson must be sick to come to the hospital. Colin, I’m okay. You should check on her first.”
Colin quickly comforted her.
Purchase completed
“Don’t cry. You just put medicine on your face. Tears aren’t good for it.”
Then, he glanced at me with a sneer.
“What could be wrong with her?”
Still, his eyes were locked on the medicine bottle in my hand.
The doctor treating me happened to walk by during rounds. Seeing me, he looked disappointed.
“Did you get the medicine? If yes, leave. Don’t take up a hospital bed.”
I stayed silent, smiled, and started packing.
But Colin stopped me at the door.
Chapter 9
“Wait. Since you’re fine, apologize to my assistant now. Otherwise, not one will sell you medicine!”
“Why are you doing this? You want to stop everyone from helping her? Do you even know she-”
The doctor was cut off by the director, who was rushing over.
“Mr. Fernandez, sorry I couldn’t meet you earlier! The VIP ward is ready. Would you like to move now?”
“Sir, he-”
Again, the doctor was interrupted.
“Quiet! Don’t you know he’s the CEO of the Fernandez Group? He donates billions to us yearly. If you offend him, you’ll regret it!”
The doctor was speechless. He looked at me, then at Colin. Finally, he could only sigh, wave his hand, and leave.
Colin raised his eyebrows and looked at me, amused.
“So, can you apologize now?”
I just smiled and tossed the medicine bottle at him.
The cap popped off, spilling pills all over him.
Selena gasped, but I walked away without looking back.
“Colin, you disgust me.”

After returning from the hospital, I only have one day left before leaving for Mount Shasta.
Chapter 9
The Sullivan family planned a banquet for tomorrow. Lillian would likely announce Selena’s return to America then.
It was fine. Everything could get back on track.
To feel better, I took some sleeping pills and fooled myself.
I hoped the pain would disappear once I fell asleep.
But under the blanket, cold sweat covered me because of the pain.
In a haze, I dreamed of when I first married Colin.
Back then, I couldn’t eat and just sat in the garden, dazed all day.
Colin worried I wouldn’t last and brought me tasty food every day.
But I wouldn’t even look at it until one day he brought roasted corn.
Sweet, steaming roasted corn was my favorite childhood treat, but I only ate it during New Year’s.
That day, with red eyes, I held the corn and ate it slowly, bite by bite.
I no longer remembered its taste.
But I did remember that since then, I have never had roasted corn that
good again.
Late at night, I faintly heard my phone ring.
When I answered, Colin’s voice was unclear. “Naomi, you…”
I couldn’t catch his words. I just muttered softly, “Colin, I want to eat roasted corn…”
Before he could reply, I turned over and fell into a deep sleep.
I woke up to the sound of a door opening. I got up and saw Colin come in.
He seemed a little drunk and wobbly, but he still took out a roasted corn and handed it to me.
