Chapter 8
Jake’s Pov
I stepped into my boss’s office; he had a scowl on his face. I already broke out in a cold sweat, “Sir, you called for me.” my palms felt so sweaty, I cleaned them on my pants.
He looked at me through his thick–rimmed glasses, “Jake, you are part of our PRO team and represent my company.”
I didn’t like where this was going already, “Yes,…yes, sir I’m aware. I love my job and I’ll never do anything to tarnish the image of the company.”
He rolled his eyes at me, “I don’t have time so I’ll get straight to it. I understand you’re going through family issues and a divorce publicly; if you don’t sort this out in two weeks, I’m afraid I’ll have to fire you.”
“Sir! But my private life has nothing to do with affecting the company. I’ve worked for this company for five solid years giving my all…” He didn’t let me finish my sentence, “That’s enough! You’re reputable can harm my company and I won’t have that. Fix your reputation online and your marriage or turn in your resignation letter.”
“Okay, sir,” I said through my teeth. I left his office, and as I went back to mine, I could feel the stares of my co–workers boring into my back. I quickened my pace, but it did little to help I could still hear their voices all around me. I felt tempted to shut my ears and run.
I heard some of their whispers, “Yes, I think he is cheating on his wife with her sister. Poor woman and she’s already battling her mental health.”
I rushed into my office and punched the wall in aggression, my fist went through the wall.
But the ache in my fist didn’t ease any of my feelings I had to find Celestina as soon as possible. Her disappearance was ruining my life, and even my own health was beginning to deteriorate.
A voice whispered to me in my head, ‘You are to blame for this; you ruined everything, not Celestina.‘
I hadn’t slept properly in days, I was currently on medication for insomnia.
“Baby are you okay?” I heard Alexandrian’s voice from behind me. I jumped not expecting anyone to be in my office.
I was so caught up in my emotions that I didn’t notice when she walked in. “I’m not okay, your sister is ruining my life. My boss just threatened to have me sacked because of my reputation online.”
Alexandrian’s eyes widened in panic, but the panic looked more for herself than for my plight.
Since Celestina blocked the funds account they had access to I’ve been funding their lifestyle. And sincerely they spend extravagantly.” “How are we all going to survive if you lose your job? We have to act very fast.”
I rubbed my temples, trying to ease tension, “Act fast, how? What do you suggest we do?“}]
Alexandrian smirked darkly. It sent cold chills down my spine; who exactly had I fallen in love with?
“We’ll flip the switch on the game she’s playing, leave that to me. But first, do you have all of Celestina’s medical records and details?“>
I nodded cautiously wondering what she had in mind. This woman was turning out to be more devious than I envisaged by the minute.
“Yes, I do.“}
“Good, now you’ll contact your lawyer. Regardless of the divorce papers she signed, it doesn’t solidify the divorce, put out all her medical records on social media with a write–up.”>
I furrowed my brows in confusion, “What write–up?“}
“That she’s legally insane, she has an imaginary lover who is manipulating her to run away and divorce you. Say you’ve been trying to manage the symptoms, but she’s been getting aggressive. I’d even corroborate the story by mentioning how she attacked me before running away.”
I was shocked to my bones at the suggestion, as horrible as I felt the lies. I have to admit it is a good idea and save my reputation.”
I felt Alexandrian rubs my back, and not being able to resist, I leaned into her touch. She rested her head on my body.”
“Announce, you intend to contend the divorce in court. If she refuses, then the marriage is legal, and you’ll become the legal guardian taking control of the company; if she does intend to contend, she’ll have to come out of hiding.”
I breathed in relief for the first time today, “You are so smart, Alexandrian.”
She leans up and presses a kiss to my chin, “Don’t worry we’re in this together. I won’t let her ruin our life and the family we intend to build together.”
Although I was relieved, I felt sick to my stomach.
True to her word, in a few hours, we executed everything as planned, and the tide was beginning to turn in our favor.
