Chapter 24%
Looking into Baron’s eyes, he repeated the vow to me, and the minister smiled. “Do you take Miss Celestina Brown to be your lawfully wedded wife?”
Baron smiled revealing his deep dimples, “I do.“}
He then tumed to me, and I had to steady my emotions; I felt like I was about to explode into a joyful rainbow of many colors.
“Do you take Baron Simon to be your lawfully wedded husband?“}
Happy tears shone in my eyes, “I do.” The crowd goes wild with applause and happy screams. The minister lifts his hand, “Lastly, I almost forgot, is there anyone who objects to this marriage,, and on what ground? Speak now or forever hold your peace.“}}
For a split second,I was deceived by the silence, e thinking the coast was clear, and Jason hadn’t somehow slipped through the cracks and appeared to cause trouble.
But boy, was I fooled. A man wearing a huge black coat covering his whole body stood up and removed the hood. The whole crowd gasped, I could hear whispers throughout the hall.
“That’s the bride’s, ex–husband; why would he object?“}
“Isn’t this man wanted for murder.”
But Jason gives the hall a stare down that silences them, “I object to the marriage on the ground that I am still in love with Celestina, and if this bastard Baron hadn’t come into the picture, she would still be with me.”
Jason tries to walk up to where I stand but the security holds him back. Luckily, the police were expecting him, so they were around, they came into the hall to take him out.
In a sudden moment, Jason, like a man on steroids, breaks free from their hold and aims at me, his eyes cold. “I’m sorry, Celestina, but if I can’t have you, no one can.“>
He screams sounding deranged person. I close my eyes as he pulls the trigger, er bracing for impact as the sound of a bullet goes off, but it never comes.
Could it be adrenaline didn’t let me feel it. I pop my eyes open, my ears still ringing, to see my Dad has rushed in front of the bullet, stopping the impact.
He fell to the ground with a thud; Jason was disarmed and restrained, and the police handcuffed him and took him out.
I scream in horror as I see the expanding blood stain at my father’s side; I rush to his side, screaming, “Someone call 911!” A guest who is a doctor quickly springs to action, and tries to stop the bleeding.
Baron helps my Dad sit up; tears pour down my face. I could have died if he hadn’t saved me. I couldn’t believe it, all my life,e I thought he hated me.!
“I’ll be fine Celestina, it’s nothing. I’ll give my life for yours in a heartbeat; it’s the least I could do to prove I’m really sorry.”}
I hold his hand, “Thank you, Dad.” The paramedics come in and take him.
The minister looks at us, awkwardly. “Well, I guess I pronounce you husband and wife.“}
Baron whisked me into his hands, kissing me deeply; I could see there were tears in his eyes. “I almost lost you. I’m never letting go.” He says into my hair.
The crowd applauds loudly.
Today is the day I’ll never forget, I could have been killed by my ex husband on my wedding day.”
Jason was charged to court and it was found out he was suffering from a mental obsessive illness too. He was locked up in the asylum prison as his symptoms increased, the irony it.
Luckily for my Dad, the bullet did not harm any vital organs. His health improved significantly and he was discharged from the hospital. Our relationship was beginning to heal and take a better turn for good.
Months later, I found out I was expecting twins, not just one. The whole family was excited especially Baron’s mum, “I can’t believe I’m going to have two grand babies.” She hugged me with tears in her eyes.
Baron insisted on flying me to a foreign country that had the best maternity care. The day of Labour finally came, I was admitted to the hospital on the morning of the day of my delivery.”
The pain was excruciating and I felt very exhausted. Baron wished he was the one on the hospital bed as he held my hand urging me. “Please push, baby; we’re almost there.” his eyes were red with emotion.”
