Chapter Fourteen
I stared at him through my computer screen, feeling nothing; it was so surreal. All I felt was rage, pure rage at myself for even ever falling for such a low–life chamber.
“Hi,” Jason said tentatively. His blue eyes seemed duller,and his eye sockets sunken; he seemed to have lost some weight in the past few days. But I brushed my concern aside.”
I kept my voice cool and neutral, “I’ll get straight to it Jason, sign the divorce papers. I don’t plan to ever come back to you; you are delaying my freedom; it makes me even loathe you more.“}
His eyes showed surprise at my words but what was he expecting? Me to say I want us back together.}
“Celestin, a please…I’m so sorry for all that happened. I made a big mistake.“}
I laughed, “You’re not sorry at all, Jason; you had an affair with my step–sister and got her pregnant. You aided my family in hurting me and, worst of all, poisoned me for years. You’re only sorry I found out, if it were up to you and your lover, I’d be locked up in an asylum.“}] Jason’s eyes shone with unshed tears, I felt my heart tug in pity. But I had to stay strong; how could I still have compassion for him after all he did to me?”
“Celestina, it was not me. I never knew the pills were poisoned, Alexandrian was the one who did everything. Please, you have to forgive me, I never knew. I just found out about it too.“}
He seemed sincere but I wouldn’t be fooled twice. Even if he never knew, as he claims, he was still not to be trusted, and I still wanted the divorce.
“Sign the paper, rs Jason, you’re holding me back to marriage I’m never coming back to. Regardless of your claim, I’ll let you prove your innocence to the authorities, I won’t withdraw my complaint against you.“}]
Tears streamed down his face, “Please Celestina, I know somewhere in your heart you still love me. Please give us another chance, I promise I’ll make things right.”
I took a deep breath before responding, “I wish you all the best, Jason; I will file for the divorce and make sure you’re compelled to do so if you don’t sign. Have a nice life and enjoy your new family.“}
“Celestina your Dad is sick and dying. He needs you.” He announces suddenly, a cheap attempt to try and make me remain on the call longer.
I was already aware of this; my stepmum Angela had been blowing up my phone, begging that my Dad want me to come back and help him recover.
I look Jason squarely in the eyes, “I wish him a speedy recovery; he has his family by his side, and I’m sure he’ll recover. Like I said, you’re ail dead to me. And you’ll all pay for what you did to me, you especially.“}
Jason’s mouth opened in surprise; he started to say something.
“Please….”
but I didn’t let him finish his sentence before I turned the call off.}
I was done with him and my family forever.
As soon as the divorce is finalized I plan to take full control of my mother’s company and continue her legacy.
Just as I was about to shut my computer down, I saw a message from my lawyer; Jason had signed the divorce papers. I was finally a free woman.
Good, I thought to myself. In as much as I was replaced by the thought of him now, my heart felt heavy; I found myself crying, mourning the life I could have had with him if he hadn’t ruined it all.
I also don’t want my Dad to die as much as I dislike him for all he has put me through, I also won’t go back and be by his side.}
He can recover without me, he didn’t deserve the comfort of my presence.
Wiping my tears I decided to get dressed; I had a meeting with a potential investor set up by the board of directors of my mum’s
company.
Since we’ll be back to running business soon, I needed to make the necessary connections and get ready.}
I wasn’t going to let my past ruin my future.

I sat down on my bedroom floor, downing a bottle of scotch; I didn’t know why I decided to sign the divorce papers as Celestina had requested.
Maybe it was because of the coldness I saw in her eyes, she didn’t even seem like the sweet girl that had fallen for me anymore.
I guess I signed it to call her bluff, but I sorely regret it now. I don’t want to let go of her, the very thought of another man touching her makes my skin crawl.
“Ill do all it takes to clear my name and get you back,” I say to no one, my words slurring due to my drunken state.
