Chapter Eleven!
Jake’s Pov
My eyes bulged out so badly I felt like they would fall out of my eye socket. I read the notification on my phone and held the physical copy of the court summon that had been sent to me in both hands.
My head spun so fast I felt like I was going to pass out, I read it again. I was being accused of intentionally giving Celestina, my wife, herbs to cause her delusions and tamper with her mental health.
This had to be a lie, but the doctor’s report seemed real.N
I threw the papers on the floor and called my lawyer. He didn’t respond, my life was about to crash down hard.}
But to come to think of it, Celestina was very okay mentally till Alexander started sourcing the vitamin supplement that she and I have been breaking.
Could it be she maybe did something? But I’ve been taking the pills she supplies and nothing has been happening to me.”
I plopped back down on my office chair, massaging my temples; my thoughts felt like a tangled mess.
Someone tapped on my office door aggressively, the more I tried to ignore it, the louder it got.”
“Come in,” I yelled in anger. My boss storms into the office and I stand up to my feet immediately. I open my mouth to speak, but he raises his finger, shutting me up.
He flings a letter to me, “Clear your desk out, Jake; I can’t afford to let a criminal like you work in my company. So you poisoned your wife!” He spat at me in disappointment and disbelief.
“Sir.. I’m being falsely accused….I′′)
“Get out of this building in five minutes or I’ll have the security do so.” He walked out of the office cutting me off.”
My eyes sting in frustration; what the heck was happening? Worse still the world now believes I poisoned my wife to steal her company.}]
I felt glued to the spot I stood on, unable to move a muscle. Five minutes passed in a whim, and true to my boss’s words, three hefty security men entered my office.
One picked up my stuff and tossed them into a carton, two picked me up. As I was dragged out of the office, I tried to hide my face in shame and block out the whispers, but they were relentless.}
“I can’t believe Jake poisoned his wife!”
“She was falsely locked up in an asylum because of him.”
“Jake’s a heartless monster.“}
I felt relieved when the security men threw me out with my stuff. The fall was nothing compared to the harsh words in there, Alexandrian has a lot of explaining to do.”
Where are we being set up? Or did Alexandrian tamper with Celestina’s pills and make her paranoid for years? I stood up as passersby were beginning to gather.
Picking up the carton, I raced to my car; just as I got in, someone threw a rotten egg at my windscreen, and a tomato shortly followed. I had to drive fast out of the parking lot before I got attacked.”
Throughout the ride home, I thought about it. Getting to the house, I found the pills Celestina had forgotten to carry and quickly sent them to a buddy I had at a lab to test them.}
I paced around the house restless for an hour till I got a notification on my phone. My buddy Ted had gotten back to me with the results, the vitamin supplements were positive for delusion herbs.
My hands shook so badly that the phone fell out of my hand; all these years, I had unknowingly aided Alexandrian in poisoning my wife.” My legs felt like jelly. I fell to the floor; I’ve been deceived all these years. Celestina was never the bad person; she was never the selfish and manipulative one. It was Alexandrina all this while.
Tears poured down my face as I reached for my phone, dialing Celestina’s number; I have to explain. I have to clear my name and let her know I still love her and I’m sorry.”
Her line was switched off, I went to our texts before it all went bad. She was asking me what I’d eat for dinner. I took her for granted, and now I’ve lost her.”
I heard footsteps coming my way; for a brief second, I hoped in anticipation that it was Celestina coming back to me so we could fix things.
But it was short–lived; when I saw the red stilettos, I knew it was Alexandrina. I stood up to my feet fueled by anger.”
“You still have the guts to show your face here! After all, you’ve done.”
She gave me a hurt look, but I could see through her pretense now clearly.
“What do you mean baby? I saw the accusations online. And I came here to show you support.“}
