As early as 6 am in the morning, I packed my suitcase and left for the hospital, all determined to see the doctor. I can’t stay in Paris any longer.
Today must be my lucky day, as the doctor popped his head from the doctor and beckoned to him. “Come in.”
I excitedly came into his office, “Good morning doctor.” I say as I sit down.
“Good moming, what may I do for you today?” He responded with a smile.
I bring out my medications from my bag with my prescription, “Erm, I’m trying to get fresh medication for this prescription. But I was told I can’t without a registered doctor’s authorization.”N
The doctor adjusted his glasses and examined the drugs, he put on some surgical gloves and opened the prescription bottles. When he opens my vitamin supplement he scrunches up his nose and closes it back.
Taking off the gloves and his glasses cautiously, “From your doctor’s prescription I can see you occasionally struggle with paranoia. Do you mind giving me a brief background to this, especially how it started?”
“If it started some three years ago when I lost my mother, most days it’s really manageable, some days undetectable, but some it’s really heightened, and I’ve actually been at an asylum.“”
“Hmm.” He nods thoughtfully.
I furrow my eyebrows, “Is something wrong?“N
“Where did you get these supplements from?” He raises my vitamins.
My husband usually gets them for me. I’ve been taking them for the past few years. Is there a problem?“}]
He lets out a breath, “I’ll be honest with you, they have the very pungent smell of a herb that causes delusions over time. And you’ve been ingesting it in small doses; when it comes to an overload, they probably mimic symptoms of paranoia.”
My heart felt like it stopped briefly. I knew Jake was cold, but if this doctor was right, I was never mentally ill.
“Could….could…could that be why whenever I forget to take them? I feel absolutely fine.”
The doctor arches his eyebrows in amusement, “This is a serious matter, you know what. I’ll send this to the lab right now, we need to get to the bottom of this.”
I nod still in shock. So all my years of suffering, the numerous side effects of the drugs I never had to be on, one of the symptoms includes reduced fertility.
I hope it hadn’t done something permanent to me; how do I even get over the trauma of being locked up in an asylum when I was never crazy to start with?
I didn’t even realize I was crying. Till the doctor handed me a handkerchief which I took and wiped my tears.]
He picks up the medication, “I’ll be back in an hour. Don’t worry, I’ll see to the bottom of this.”
“Thank you.”
True to the doctor’s suspicions, I held the lab results in my shaky palms. The doctor was talking, but I could barely hear him over the sound of my beating heart.”
“S,o ma’am, I’ll advise you to take this up legally. You need to get the authorities involved in this and to investigate your husband and even the doctor too. You were never mentally ill.”}
I nodded, blinking through the tears. “Thank you so much, doctor, you have no idea how much you’ve saved my life.”
He nodded and handed me some supplements, “These are real vitamins and would help flush qut the residue of the bad herbs you’ve been taking. Please protect yourself and make sure you prioritize your health.“}
I stood up, “thank you.”
I quickly took out my cell phone and booked the next available flight to the airport, afraid of the extent to which family and Jake could harm me if they were.
I call my lawyer, “Plans changed, I wouldn’t need to come back. I’ll send you all the details.“}]
I quickly took pictures of the stamped doctor’s report and lab results showing I had been poisoned for the past three years. I sent the pictures to my lawyer, Mr Tanner would know what to do.!!
This evidence would disqualify Jake from being my lawful guardian and put him under investigation. It hurts like a blister though, my first and only love purposely making me sick.”
Letting out a deep breath, I book the next available flight for the day to my next destination. At least I had the perks of being rich and sad. I don’t mind touring the world to get away from my shitty past and heal my broken heart.”
Hailing a cab to the airport, my phone buzzed with endless notifications. Even the driver gave me a weird look from the review mirror.
Despite the sadness of the revelation, I was thrilled when I saw what my lawyer did. He had quickly acquired a court summons and attached the evidence against Jake.
