“Is that right? Well, we will see.”
No secret could be hidden forever. As long as Rosalie committed a crime, she would certainly have left a trace. I wondered if Eldwin would defend her when the truth was revealed.
A few days later, Javien’s wounds recovered. He could not wait to prepare my wedding gifts and send them to my house. There were one hundred and twenty–eight boxes full of gifts. Every woman in the Royal Capital was envious.
I looked at the heaps of priceless goods in my front yard and wondered if Javien had given everything in his house to me.
While the Shaw family’s estate was filled with a celebratory mood, Eldwin suddenly pointed his sword at Javien.
“I challenge you to a duel, Javien. Do you dare to fight me? If you lose, you will get out of here and take these gifts with you!”
I was baffled by Eldwin’s bizarre action. A surge of anger burst in me. “What the hell do you think you’re doing, Eldwin? Have you gone insane?”
Eldwin seemed confused. He did not understand why he acted this way either. All he knew was that he did not want me to marry Javien.
“This is for the sake of your happiness, Catalina. I have always been the one you love. I refuse to believe that you suddenly fell for Javien. You are just angry with me.”
After listening to his nonsense, I took Javien’s hand. “Ignore him. Let’s head into the house.”
Eldwin raised his sword and charged at Javien.
Javien pulled me into his arms, spun, and narrowly escaped the deadly stab. Even so, the sword left a cut on his arm. He shot Eldwin a murderous look.
Then, Javien turned to me and said, “Wait here for a bit, Catalina.”
“You are wounded…”
