Chapter 9
On the final day, Seraphina tore off the last page of the calendar.
Just then, her phone buzzed.]
It was a message from Delilah.
A photo popped up.
It was the pocket watch her late grandmother had given her.[]
“Saw this at the Blake house the other day. Thought it was pretty, so I took it. I’m bored with it now. Come get it yourself.“[]
Seraphina’s blood ran cold. She checked the address attached to the message and rushed over.
ver.
Her car stopped by the central bridge.
Delilah was standing by the river, holding the watch high in the air with a smug expression.[]
“Seraphina, I called you here today to test something. To see who Cassian really prefers–you or me.”
Seraphina felt a bad feeling creeping up.
But her eyes were locked on the watch dangling in the air, she didn’t have time to think. She didn’t want to waste time arguing with this bitch and stepped forward to grab the watch.
Her cold attitude pissed Delilah off even more.
Delilah hated her untouchable attitude, like nothing could touch her![]
She only had everything because of Cassian anyway. What was she being so arrogant about?
Jealousy and resentment boiling over, Delilah threw the watch straight into the river.]
“You bitch!”
Seraphina’s eyes widened in fury. Seeing the challenge in Delilah’s eyes, she couldn’t hold back anymore and slapped her hard.]]
Delilah clutched her cheek, about to say something when she spotted a sports car speeding toward them. She immediately shoved Seraphina into the river.
The second Cassian got out of his car, Delilah jumped in after her.]
The cold and murky water rushed in from all sides, dragging Seraphina down.[]
Her limbs flailed as she searched blindly beneath the surface, finally finding it in the riverbed. Before her oxygen ran out, she tried swimming up. But Delilah’s panicked thrashing pulled her back down.
Her body was running out of strength and her vision blurred.]
I
Just as both of them were about to sink to the bottom, there was a splash.[]
Cassian had jumped in!]

As her awareness slipped away, Seraphina forced her eyes open…]
And saw Cassian swim straight toward Delilah without hesitation.[]
She watched him rescue Delilah and bring her to shore.[]
Held her limp body against his chest. Called her name over and over.[]
He never looked at Seraphina once.
Tears spilled from Seraphina’s eyes, mixing with the cold river water. Then using every last bit of strength she had, she fought her way to the surface!
The afternoon sun poured down over her drenched body.]
She crawled out, gasping for fresh air
Looking at the man giving Delilah mouth to mouth by the bridge, Seraphina clutched the pocket watch tightly and walked toward the road.]
Toward the future. Toward freedom.]
As they were about to pass each other, Cassian finally seemed to remember her existence and called out.
Chapter 9
“Sera, you can swim, so I rescued Delilah first. Are you okay?“]
Seraphina paused for just a moment. “I’m fine.“]
Seeing Delilah slowly opening her eyes, Cassian exhaled in relief and walked over to grab Seraphina’s hand. “Sera, let me take you home…“]]
Before he could finish, Delilah’s tearful voice came from behind them.]
“Cassian, my head hurts so bad…”
Cassian hesitated for a moment. [
And in that instant of indecision, Seraphina said in a hoarse voice, “Go take care of her. Don’t worry about me.”
“I’ll drop her off at the hospital and come right back, I promise,” he rushed to say.
At an angle he couldn’t see, Seraphina shook her head with tears in her eyes.
What she meant was that from now on, he didn’t need to worry about her at all.]
Because from this day forward, they were no longer husband and wife, with no connection whatsoever.]]
Cassian Blake, seven years of torture was finally over.
I’m letting go.
Just like you always wanted, I’m running to someone else’s arms.
Then she stumbled her way to the roadside and opened her car door.
For some reason, Cassian’s heart suddenly tightened as he watched her go.
Sera!”
He instinctively called out her name, but she ignored him.[]
He could only watch as her car drove out of sight.
By the time she got home, the housekeeper was already waiting.
“I made some hot chicken bone broth for you, ma’am. And this-” she held up a velvet box. “Mr. Blake asked me to give it to you. Said he’d be home tonight to have dinner with you.“]]
Dinner? After they were divorced?
Seraphina let out a laugh and shook her head.[]
Without a word, she turned upstairs and changed clothes–then calmly began packing the last of her things.
When she rolled her suitcase down the stairs, the housekeeper gaped.[]
“Ma’am? Are you leaving?”
Seraphina’s voice was raspy but steady.]
“When Cassian comes back, tell him to take a good look at that document he signed a month ago.“]
Tell him that Cassian Blake has been written out of Seraphina Vale’s story.”
Then she slipped off her ring, dropped it into the trash can by the gate and walked to her car.[]
The dark purple Maybach sped south through the night, disappearing into the darkness like a woman reborn.]
