Chapter 23
At 30,000 feet above ground, clouds drifted past the window, seeming within reach.
After a short nap, Seraphina woke up to find a pair of dark eyes staring at her.[]
She picked up her phone and checked–only two hours had passed. She frowned.]
Noticing her expression, Zayden quickly offered her a glass of warm water he’d prepared, his voice carrying a hint of nervousness.]
“Did you have a nightmare? Or something on your mind?“]]
Seraphina happened to be thirsty, so she took the glass and drank several gulps.
As she set the cup down, the plane happened to be passing over a city.
She stared at it for a while. And when she turned back, she saw Zayden looking at her with that pitiful, kicked–puppy expression.[]
“Sera, I confessed everything to you. Why won’t you talk to me? Are you still mad at me?”
Only then did Seraphina realize she really hadn’t said a word this whole time.
At first, she’d been shocked by everything he’d told her. Her mind kept replaying past events, leaving her in no mood to talk.
After boarding the plane, tshe got tired. She’d dozed off without realizing it and forgot about the whole thing.
It wasn’t until she heard his careful probing that she remembered she should probably give him some kind of response.[]
To be honest, Seraphina was somewhat angry about Zayden lying to her.
Not because of the lying itself–after all, she was the one who labeled him as a broke boytoy and offered to be his sugar mama. [
Just thinking about those disgusting thoughts made her feel ashamed, so naturally she didn’t mind him hiding these things. What bothered her was that even after she’d confirmed the divorce, he was still acting and deceiving her.
He’d already proposed, but still wouldn’t tell the truth. How long was he planning to keep lying?
So even though she’d forgiven his behavior…. there was still some steam to let off.
But now seeing him put on that vulnerable and pitiful act again, her heart softened.
To block his influence, she placed her hand over his face and spoke coolly.
“Of course I’m still mad. You lied to me for so long. How do I know if what you’re saying now is true, or if you’re still hiding something?“[]
Through her fingers, Zayden saw her cold expression and quickly raised his right hand.[]
“I swear, I told you everything I should have. If I’m hiding anything, may I be struck by light-”
Before he could finish, Seraphina covered his mouth, her tone full of helplessness.[]
“Seriously? We’re in the sky right now. Maybe skip the part where you tempt fate, yeah?“]
She let out a sigh, her tone shifting into reluctant compromise.]
“I’ll ask you a few questions. Answer them honestly, and I’ll consider forgiving you.“]]
Seeing a glimmer of hope, Zayden nodded eagerly.
“You told me before that your family was ordinary. How ordinary exactly?”
”
“Some money, some houses. The kind of ordinary where I could grit my teeth and buy you whatever jewelry you wanted
Seraphina recalled when she’d tried to compensate him with that check worth several hundred thousand.
In hindsight, she should’ve added a few zeros
Just a few hundred thousand–no wonder he wasn’t interested. He probably thought she was a stingy sugar mama!
She’d really embarrassed all sugar mamas everywhere [
Though she was internally complaining, Seraphina wouldn’t show weakness
“Who asked you to give me jewelry? You wouldn’t even take my allowance before. How could I accept jewelry from your

“It’s not that I didn’t want it. I was afraid you’d think I was greedy and dump me someday. I just wanted you to see how much I meant it… how much you meant to me.”
