After Seraphina said her final words, she didn’t spare Cassian another glance.
She simply took Zayden’s hand and got in the car.

From the rearview mirror, Zayden could see Cassian breaking down and collapsing to the ground. He couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at his lips.[]
But since he was in front of Seraphina, he still had to play the role of the obedient puppy. So he could only turn his head to hide his amusement.
By the time he looked back with his expression adjusted, he collided with a pair of suspicious eyes.[]
“If you want to gloat, just smile openly. Why hide it?”
Shit, he might have blown his cover.
Realizing this, Zayden’s smile froze for a moment before quickly returning to normal.]
He hugged Seraphina’s arm and started acting cute like before, trying to gloss over what had just happened.[]
“I was smiling because I heard you say we love each other. I wasn’t gloating at all.“[]
His lightning–fast change of expression even surprised Seraphina.[]
She reached out and lifted his chin, forcing him to meet her eyes.
“You remember our agreement, right? No lies with sweet words. I’m giving you one more chance–you better tell the truth.“]
Her tone was soft, but Zayden could feel the weight behind it.[]
So he dropped the smile from his face and told the truth.]
“Yeah, I was gloating a little.”
Seeing the fish take the bait, Seraphina’s lashes fluttered as she asked the next question.
“You know who he is?“]
His hand twitched, and he didn’t answer immediately.

He hesitated. Not because he didn’t know the answer, but because he didn’t know how to
After all, in Seraphina’s mind, he’d always been been the obedient one.

She told him not to ask about her ex, so he didn’t. She told him to stay in the villa, hidden from the world, and he
complied without question.]
In this impure relationship, he’d hidden everything–his ambition, his knowledge, his intentions–just to keep her close.[]
Waited for the day he could take the place Cassian never deserved.]
And now that the day had come, that she’d chosen him, Zayden should confess everything.[]
But he hesitated.
What if the truth shattered everything? What if after all she’d survived, she couldn’t handle one more lie even from him?]
He was afraid she’d abandon him and leave once she knew the truth.]
So he kept hiding this secret
But at the current situation, it seemed he couldn’t hide it anymore.]
Especially her particularly serious gaze right now made Zayden feel like he was sitting on pins and needles, his heart burning.]
His mind buzzed with voices, one screaming to lie again, the other begging him to be honest for once.]
He didn’t know whose advice to follow, torn with indecision.
He was stuck–until her warm and steady hand supped over his and he finally became somewhat clear headed)
A voice that was calm but contained infinite strength fell by his ear]
We re engaged now. Aren’t you planning to share some secrets with me, Zayden?“)
One sentence made all those troubing vures disappearЛ]

Zayden finally had the courage to lift his head and really meet her gaze.
No more puppy–dog eyes. No more fake meekness. Just him.[]
Only endless determination, and a flash of hesitation.[]
He didn’t want to lie to her anymore.[]
At least for this moment, let him be himself.]]
