Chapter 2
len
Right after Cassian left, Seraphina got a FaceTime call from Zayden.
He was cooking in a white button–down. His soft hair falling across his forehead, long lashes framing gentle eyes. He looked so young and sweet.]]
“Babe, did you get the divorce?“]
Even though she was several years older and way more experienced, seeing his face still made her heart skip a beat.]
No wonder all the college girls were throwing themselves at him.]
She cleared her throat and tried to keep it together. “Yeah. Signed the papers. One–month waiting period, and then we’re officially done.“]]
Zayden’s gorgeous lips curved into a smile. “Good. Then until that’s over, don’t let him touch you. I’m gonna check, you know.“]
Seraphina blinked and caught off guard because his word. Her cheeks flushed. “Don’t say weird stuff like that. You’re just a kid.“]]
Zayden looked right at her, his eyes flashing with pure possessiveness before he put on an innocent pout. “Babe, I’m only young in age. Everything else about me is… very grown up.”
Jesus.
Seraphina felt things could get too R–rated. She quickly changed the subject and sweet–talked him into hanging up.
Zayden was perfect in almost every way… except for one thing-
He was clingy as hell.
After the call, Seraphina went out and bought a dog–themed page–a–day calendar.[]
Thirty–one whole days. She lived by it.[]
Every day, she’d rip off another page.
From October 1st to the 10th, Cassian never came home once.]]
But Seraphina knew exactly where he was, who he was with, what he was doing.
His latest girlfriend was some intern at his company–Delilah Brooks. [
The girl posted their every move on Instagram like she was marking her territory.
Afternoon tea at The Lobby Restaurant. Golf dates at Medinah Country Club.
Romantic dinners at LH Rooftop. Soaking together in AIRE Ancient Baths Chicago.
It was weird, actually. Cassian never spent this much time on one girl. Usually he got bored after a month, tops.
But this Delilah chick had somehow held his attention for three months straight.]
Maybe that’s what made her so cocky. Unlike his other side pieces who kept quiet, she’d actually found Seraphina on Instagram and followed her. Seraphina didn’t give a shit about these little games.]
She was getting divorced anyway. Why would any of this matter?]
These past few days, she’d been clearing out the house.
The hand picked electric razors, the perfectly pressed Tom Ford suits, that limited edition Patek Philippe watch she’d stayed up all night to snag online…]
Expensive or cheap, big or small–anything she’d ever given him got packed up and tossed.[]
Along with all the hurt from this marriage and whatever real feelings she’d once had for Cassian
She was done with the past. Time for a fresh start]
Two days later, Cassian finally came home
He looked around the half–empty house and frowned.]
“Sera, did you throw out my stuff?
Serapluna fipped through her magazine without looking up. “Yep.”
Chapter 2
“I bought it, I can toss it if I want. What’s the problem? Besides, you’re never here anyway.“]]
Cassian figured she was still pissed about last time and just trying to get a rise out of him.
n.]
He sat down next to her, trying to smooth things over like always. “Come on, didn’t we agree? We both do our own thing out there. No feelings. No drama. Why are you getting worked up again?“]
Same old bullshit excuses.
No matter what he did, he always had some way to justify it.[]
And she was supposed to just take all the pain he dished out without even complaining.
But she was done fighting about this petty crap.[]
She snapped the magazine shut and headed upstairs, her voice ice cold.
“You’re overthinking it. I don’t give a damn.“[]
Cassian thought she was just pretending not to care. He got up and grabbed her hand.
While she looked at him with pure annoyance, he pulled an invitation out of his pocket and pressed it into her palm.]
Don’t be mad, okay? I’ll take you to this auction tomorrow. Whatever you like, we’ll bid on it. Just have some fun, yeah?“]
Seraphina was about to blow him off.[]
But then she caught the gold–embossed Christie’s logo on the invitation and changed her mind.[]
If they were getting divorced anyway, might as well spend his money and have a good time doing it.
