Chapter 16
Delilah was hadn’t even recovered from their divorce surprise when she was left behind.[]
She watched Cassian’s retreating figure, getting up from the ground with her hands braced against it.[]
Just as she was about to chase after him, something occurred to her. She whipped around and smirked at Seraphina.[]
“Seraphina Vale, I told you from the beginning–you don’t stand a chance against me!“]
Seraphina looked at her quietly, then walked down the stone steps toward her.
She was about two inches taller than Delilah. So with just a slight downward glance, she could see the arrogance blazing in Delilah’s eyes.]
Thinking of that ruined watch… all the past shit stacked on top of each other… yeah, it was time.]
She flexed her fingers and joints, put on a polite smile.[]
Then under Delilah’s confused gaze, raised her hand and delivered a vicious slap.[]
The crisp smack made Delilah’s already flushed face from her illness swell up, and the force sent her tumbling several feet away.]
Though her fingertips stung and went numb, Seraphina felt refreshed.
She met Delilah’s burning angry stare and spoke softly.
“That slap was payback for yours. Got any complaints?”
Delilah never saw it coming.
But she was too weak to fight back now, so she could only shriek at the top of her lungs.
“Seraphina Vale! You bitch! When Cassian finds out about this, he won’t let you get away with it!“]
Seraphina’s smile became even brighter.[]
She crouched down and raised her hand again, delivering another slap to Delilah’s left cheek.
With matching red handprints on both sides, her OCD felt much better and her tone became cheerful.]
That slap was for my pocket watch. Now we’re even.“[]
“Of course, if you want revenge, feel free to bring Cassian along. I wouldn’t mind slapping him a few times too.”

With that, she didn’t spare Delilah another glance and gracefully stood up.
Turning around, Seraphina saw Zayden pressed against the window, looking unhappy.[]
The moment their eyes met, he came rushing out and took her hand. His voice full of concern.]
“Why didn’t you call me to do the hitting? Does your hand hurt?“]
Just seeing him made her heart soften
“It’s nothing. Next time, I’ll let you do the honors, deal?”
That coaxing tone did the trick–Zayden’s face finally relaxed a little.]
He helped her it at the dining table, then went to the kitchen to get some ice.[]
Waiting ham fuss over such a truall thing. Seraphina sighed and tried to stop him []
“It’s fine, it wont swell up. You don’t need the ice.”
He didn’t answer just came back with a cold pack and gently pressed it to her palm
His säence made her ward to laugh–he was so stubborn sometimes, it was almost cute []
“Ind you get detracted watching the show? Is the chicken soup done? I’m still walling to try it
Zayden was still suziking and didn’t take the bait, so Seraphina had to change the subject!]
“Are we going to California in a couple days? Indn’t you say you wanted to take me horse? Should we pack tonight?”
At this mention, Zayden fhally spoke up!]
Chapter 16
“We’ll go to Europe first, then fly to California.”
“Europe? What for?“]
Zayden finally looked up at her. His eyes held that familiar mix of indulgence and surrender.[]
That watch was your grandmother’s, wasn’t it? Of course we have to get it fixed first. Otherwise, when you take me to visit her grave, how sad would she be?“]
Seraphina hadn’t expected him to be so thoughtful and considerate. Warmth flooded her heart.
But she’d examined the watch on the drive yesterday–it was probably beyond repair, and she didn’t want to make a wasted trip.[]
It’s not necessary. It just doesn’t tick anymore. But it’s still with me. That’s what matters.”
Her tone was full of consolation, but the pain in Zayden’s eyes only deepened.[]
He set down the ice. Pulled out the ring she’d taken off before her shower.
Without a word, he slipped it back onto her finger.
His voice was quiet, but firm.
P
“Let’s go anyway. Think of it as a vacation. If it has anything to do with you, even if there’s only a one percent chance–I want to try.“]]
