Chapter 9
Vincent’s phone rang again.
Chelsea stared at the name on the screen, her face cold.
Without thinking, she rejected the call, fired off a text, and deleted the call log.
It was George. He was definitely calling about Eline.
There was no way she’d let him pull Vincent away from her.
Vincent walked in carrying takeout.
He set it down and started looking for his phone.
Chelsea handed it over, all considerate.
He asked casually, “Anyone call?”
A flicker in her eyes. “No. Why? Am I holding you up again?”
Her eyes reddened, tears pooling.
Vincent couldn’t stand seeing her cry.
He gently comforted her. “No, it’s just… George said he’d call back. Strange he hasn’t yet.”
He was about to check his phone when Chelsea suddenly cried out in pain.
Vincent frowned and slipped the phone into his pocket.

Tears streamed down Chelsea’s cheeks. Vincent, like always, tried to
soothe her.

Once she stopped crying, he opened the takeout and started feeding her.
Seeing the same dishes again, she felt a complicated mix of emotions.
When she was hospitalized before, Vincent only ordered takeout.
She never expected a spoiled rich kid like him to cook anyway.
But when Eline got hospitalized for gastritis, he rushed home to cook her soup without hesitation.
Jealousy nearly drove her mad. That’s why she staged this whole act before he came back.
Now, looking at him sitting in front of her, distracted, her voice trembled with grievance.
“Mr. Dallman, I fell from such a height. Just how much does Ms. Cazemier hate me? She wishes I were dead-”
“Don’t talk nonsense.
Vincent cut her off.
He rubbed his brow, annoyed.
“Eline is stubborn, but this time it was probably an accident. You two should just stay away from each other.”
He put down his spoon.
He’d overreacted earlier, blaming Eline without even asking.

dangerous moment.
She couldn’t have meant to pull Chelsea down with her.
Seeing him instinctively defend Eline made bitterness well up in Chelsea’s chest.
But on the surface, she stayed calm and sweet.

Her soft hand slid under Vincent’s shirt, her body curling around him like a slippery snake.
Vincent’s desire flared instantly, his eyes darkening. “How about your injury?”
“It’s fine, Mr. Dallman. We haven’t… for so long-”
Before she could finish, Vincent pressed her down hard.
They tangled together, losing track of time, place, and everything.
Morning came.
Chelsea gently traced his jawline
Half–asleep, Vincent instinctively grabbed her hand.
His voice was thick with exhaustion. “Eline, stop it!”
Her whole body froze. Her fingertips went ice cold.
Vincent woke up completely, eyes suddenly clear.
Chelsea’s face stiffened, but she forced herself to stay “understanding.”
She slowly pulled her hand back.
“Mr. Dallman, you’re still thinking about Ms. Cazemier? I know I can’t

compare to what you two share. If you’re that worried, you should go check on her.”
Vincent paused, not offering the usual comfort.
He gently moved her other hand off his waist.

Seeing the shock on her face, he spoke slowly, “Go back to sleep. I’ll go see her.”
Panic surged in Chelsea.
She hadn’t meant it literally. He used to always refuse.
She never understood why–until she accidentally overheard him talking with his friend.
That’s when she found out that Vincent married Eline not out of love.
If he didn’t love Eline but still married her…
Then why couldn’t that person be her?
