Chapter 8
At the ski resort, Chelsea dropped her snowboard and looked at Eline with a sneer.
The cut on her face was treated and covered with a bandage.
But blood still beaded on Eline’s forehead.
Eline tried to walk past her, but Chelsea blocked her way.
“Eline, see it now? So what if you married Mr. Dallman? After all these years, you’re still just his ‘buddy.‘ He doesn’t love you. No matter how low you stoop, it’s useless!”
Eline shoved her aside, her voice cold.
“Chelsea, you smashed my watch. This won’t end here. I’ll make you pay. Now, move.
Seeing how beaten she looked, yet still holding her pride, made Chelsea grit her teeth
Then she caught a glimpse of something behind Eline and smirked.
“Oh, that crappy watch? Still not broken? Tsk. I should’ve thrown it down a sewer, so you’d never cling to it again!”
Eline’s sharp gaze followed hers.
But instead of slapping her, she held back.
Chelsea saw Vincent approaching fast and grew anxious.
She suddenly shoved Eline.

The next second, she grabbed Chelsea, and both of them tumbled down the slope.
Chelsea’s screams pierced the air.
Luckily, she wore protective gear and wasn’t badly hurt.
But Eline’s body screamed in pain. Her arm twisted unnaturally, and tears burst from her eyes.
Vincent rushed down. Out of instinct, she reached for him.

“Eline, who do you think you are? You’re ignoring my warning and hurting my girl again!”
He cut her off coldly.
Her lips trembled, but no sound came out.
Vincent had already turned, scooping up the sobbing Chelsea.
Pain radiated through her lower body. Her whole frame shook uncontrollably. Every breath felt like a knife twisting in her gut.
As Vincent carried Chelsea away, Eline called out, “Vincent, what am I to you?”
Not a friend. Not a lover. Not even his girl…
So then–what was she?
He never once looked at her.

Only when she asked that question did he finally glance back.

His eyes were like blades, cutting straight through her.
“You? Nothing.”
His figure disappeared into the distance.
Her vision blurred. The pain swallowed her whole. Eline passed out.
When she woke up, she was in a hospital bed.
George stood there, face tight, eyes full of pity.
After a long pause, he finally spoke.
“Eline, you and Vincent are still young. There’ll be more chances for kids.”
Eline stayed eerily calm.

Her eyes were flat, emotionless.
He hesitated, then added awkwardly, “Vincent is on his way. Just wait a bit longer.”
At the mention of Vincent, her lashes fluttered slightly.
She sent George away, picked up her phone, and made a call.
Not long after, the call was returned.
Then, quietly, she snuck out of the hospital.
Outside, a black car waited for her.
She got in without hesitation.

In fact, there was no “them” anymore…
