But in the middle of all that chaos, the two of us just stood there–facing off.
Ryan’s eyes were bloodshot, but he couldn’t even look me in the eye.
Ryan’s dad, Ronald Morris, snapped, furious, “What kind of nonsense is this!”
“Oh, so your father’s saying I faked those photos?” I let out a cold, bitter laugh. “That I photoshopped them just to slander you and Rachel?”
Ryan stepped toward me, trying to grab my hand. “Julia, it’s not what it looks like. This is a misunderstanding.”
Sabrina immediately stepped between us. “Misunderstanding? Really? You should take a look at Rachel’s messages with Julia. Please scroll through and read the way she sent those photos to her.
“Look at how smug and disgusting she sounded while doing it.
“I swear, I’ve seen my share of homewreckers, but incest and playing the victim on top of it?
“Wow. Your family must be so proud.”

there, pale as death, eyes locked on me.
“Please. Just give me one chance to explain.”

I stared at him, emotionless. “Don’t bother. Ask Rachel to explain why I have those photos.”
I turned to walk away. He lunged forward, trying to stop me.
“Ryan,” I snapped. “I’m pregnant.”
I shoved his hand away, stepping back with one arm instinctively covering my stomach.

His face crumpled. His eyes filled with red, and his skin went even paler.
“Stay away from me,” I said coldly.
Back in the car, Sabrina slapped the steering wheel hard. “Ugh! But he still didn’t sign the divorce papers! No way. You have to get this disgusting marriage over with today.”
I stared straight ahead, calm and unfazed. “He’ll sign. This whole scene? I made it public for a reason. He won’t have a choice.”
“Can I ask you something, though?” she said, hesitant. “The baby, who’s the father?”
A flash of memory surged forward that night, all heat and breath and shadows.
That man’s eyes were burning with hunger.
His heavy breathing against my neck.
“It doesn’t matter,” I said, eyes turning toward the window.

I blocked Ryan–and every single member of the Morris family–from my phone, social media, and email.
His assistant and secretary kept calling me, but I didn’t answer.
Then, one day, a message came in from someone claiming to be his lawyer, asking to meet and finalize the divorce.
I showed up on time–only to find Ryan himself waiting.
After just a few days apart, he looked worn out.
Bloodshot eyes and bruises circling his jaw.
“So this is it?” he said, his voice low. “The only reason you’ll see me now
is to talk divorce?”
I leaned back on the sofa calmly. “We have nothing else to talk about except divorce.”
He took a deep breath, trying hard to keep his voice steady. “That night, she was heartbroken, drunk, and mistook me for her boyfriend. And I was drunk too, a little out of it, thought she was you.”
The more he talked, the more pathetic it sounded.
“But believe me, that was the only time. I’ve always seen her as just my sister. Julia, I’ve always loved you. Only you.”
I watched his desperate attempt to convince me and laughed until tears came. “Doesn’t matter. I slept with someone else, too. We’re even.”
I watched him in silence as his eyes cracked, going glassy and red, the edges rimmed with tears he refused to let fall.
He choked out, “Can we just pretend none of this happened?”

“Besides, it did happen. The baby in my belly is proof.”

“Julia,” he said, with pain flickered in his face, “Do you have to be like this to me?”
I cut him off cold. “I already gave you chances.
“The first time? You left me in the middle of the night to tuck Rachel into bed. I told you then–it’s her or me. You didn’t listen.
“The second time? You said you’d send her away. Instead, you took her with you.
“The third time? You told me I was cruel. That I needed to be more understanding. Well, guess what–I don’t. I can’t. So that’s it, Ryan. Go be happy with her.”
“I told you how I feel about her,” he kept going, making endless excuses.
I snapped–grabbed a glass of ice water, and threw it in his face. “Enough!”
“Ryan. You said she’s just your sister–then you sleep with her. Then you use me as your excuse? Claim you thought she was me? Can you stop making me sick?
“She’s the only one who matters to you. Otherwise, why would you keep stepping on me again and again for her?”
He looked broken, almost pitiful.
Pale and weak, he tried to say something else, but he met my cold, mocking stare.
“You still want to deny it? Go ahead. Try.

I opened a recording on my phone.
Rachel’s smug voice filled the room.
Ryan trembled, barely able to stand.
