I had no idea how Silas could face those photos every day.
Jasper gripped the photos tightly, crumpling the corners with the force of his grip.
He seemed to confirm something, and he forced himself to check the photos again and again. He was torturing himself. He
wanted to find evidence that I had rigged the whole thing.
Jasper’s voice was hoarse. “How did you get these photos? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
Silas was actually confused. “Amara’s case is in my area of jurisdiction, and I’m in charge. We already sent the photos to the email
of her next of kin. Didn’t you receive it?”
Jasper was startled. He hadn’t received any photos at all.
When Silas saw the blank look on Jasper’s face, he immediately understood.
“I can confirm that the police have already sent the photos to the family of the deceased for identification. If you didn’t receive them, think carefully about who else might have had access to your phone.”
Rosie’s figure flashed through Jasper’s mind. There were only two people around him who knew the password to his phone.

One was me, and the other was Rosie.
Why would Rosie have deleted the photos of me that the police had sent to him?
Jasper did not dare to think further about it. All he wanted to know was what I had said to Silas in the last phone call I’d made.
“Silas, I can give you whatever you want. Please tell me what Amara said to you!”
There was a pleading note in Jasper’s voice.
When Silas saw how fragile Jasper looked, he said sardonically, “Amara told me that the person who was raped that night wasn’t her, it was Rosie. However, she didn’t do it to Rosie. She begged me to find out the truth of the matter.
“She must also have told you everything that she said to me. You just didn’t believe her. That’s why she had to pin her hopes on
me.”
Jasper covered his face with his hands. He did not dare to think about how much he had disappointed me.
Silas‘ expression cleared, and he said seriously, “In the last call she made to me before we lost contact, Amara told me a secret.”
“What secret?”
Jasper’s eyes had turned bright red and were bulging out of their sockets as he stared at Silas.
“Amara told me that she was pregnant.”
When he heard the news, Jasper felt a ringing in his ears. He fell to the floor with a thump and let out a low, animalistic howl of
despair.
“No! That’s impossible! How could Amara have gotten
pregnant?”
