Chapter 8:
As long as I sleep with him now, I can reclaim my identity as a succubus.
Yet, as he moved forward, I firmly pushed him away. “I’m not in need of a business partner.” I looked at him with a half–smile, pressing a finger to his lips.
“If Mr. Hanvey did all this just to change the setting for a business talk, that’s a bit dull, isn’t it?“I do hope our next conversation proves to be more… worthwhile.“&
I opened the car door and slipped into the black Porsche parked across the street.
“Arlene… you’re just leaving like this? You were so close. Just a little more and you would’ve reclaimed your succubus powers back!” Naharel said from the driver’s seat, looking dumbfounded.
“Of course not.” A trace of hidden meaning flashed in my eyes. Letting him go just like that would be too easy on him. “Just wait a little longer 2
I’d waited this long–every bit of interest he owed me, I’d make sure to collect
That night, I got home earlier than Zack. Sure enough, right after I left, Zack went straight to Stella’s place.
I pretended to call him in a hurry, putting on my best anxious voice.
“Honey, what’s going on?” he asked from the other side of the phone.
“Ms. Hammond just came,” I said. “She told me she’s heading back home in a couple of days.” So I gave her a spare key to the house. Are you home right now? I bought a box of pastries from Windmill Dough. I put it on the table–can you make sure she gets them for me?!
I continued, “Tve still got some things to handle on my end. I’m really counting on you, okay?”
As soon as I hung up. Zack got out of bed.!
Beside him, Stella reached out, trying to stop him. “You’re not staying the night? She had definitely seen the caller ID just now. Damn that old woman.
“No, I’ve got something to take care of Zack said, throwing on his clothes in a rush.!!
Stella watched him, her eyes clearly showed frustration and refusal. At that time, she had clearly underestimated that woman.
Not long after, I heard the sound of a key tuming in the lock echoed through the apartment.
I knew he’d come back!
The door creaked open and the moment Zack stepped inside, his eyes went wide in shock. He could hardly believe what he was seeing, a foreign woman lying on the bed. It was their bed.
And she was sprawled night across it.
Not just anywhere else, she was lying on his pillow. She looked perfectly content, breathing in it’s scent like it brought her peace. Ah that was it. No wonder she was upset. He’d been too hasty B
At that moment, I was wearing Diya’s face. As I turned around, my eyes accidentally locked with Zack’s. “I’m a good friend of Arlene’s,” I said softly. “We’ve shared everything with each other since we were kids.”
“I know,” he replied. “I’ve always said Arlene’s friends are my friends too. I belong to
I forced down the nausea rising in my throat and completed the ritual.
Arlene so it’s only fair that you share me with her”
Soon as the ritual was completed, I reclaimed my identity as a succubus. As I looked at the man sprawled on the bed like a dead pig, a flicker of mockery crossed my eyes 8
I shifted back into Arlene’s form and when morning came, I gently woke him, “Honey, where’s Diya?”
Zack glanced at the empty space beside him, a flash of frustration passing through his eyes. Last night had been a blur–like his entire body had been weighed down with lead and now he felt utterly drained.
Ignoring my startled gasp, he grabbed his phone in annoyance. The moment he saw the message I had sent under Diya’s identity, he jumped out of bed and started getting dressed in a panic.
“I’m heading out for a bit, Zack muttered as he grabbed his keys.
I watched his back as he left, a small smile curling at the corners of my lips. But he hadn’t been gone long when Stella showed up at my
door
“It was you, wasn’t it? Ms. Arlene,” she sneered, “I don’t know what tricks you used to get Zack to come running to you last night but I’ll admit, I underestimated you.”)
She paused before making one last statement. “Still, let me make one thing clear. You won’t be able to keep him.“!!
I raised an eyebrow, frowning slightly. “Who said I was trying to keep him?”
