Chapter 5
I laughed at his audacity.
“She provoked and insulted me first, then stole my bag and attacked me. My fury isn’t so easily quelled. Who do you think you are to demand I stop?”
His expression darkened. He leaned in, his voice a low warning.
“Shirley, I’m offering you an out. Don’t push your luck.”
“Consider the consequences of crossing STARWIN GROUP. Can you, or your family, really afford that?”
I chuckled.
“Funny. You should be the one trembling. Crossing me means consequences not even STARWIN GROUP can withstand.”
“Now get out of my way. Once I’m done with this bitch, we’ll settle our score.”
The onlookers gasped in unison.
“Who is this woman? She’s talking like even STARWIN GROUP can’t touch her!”
“STARWIN’s been dominating New York’s business scene lately. Only a handful of families outrank them… Could she be from the Nash?”
“Nah, I’ve met the Nash heiress. She doesn’t look anything like this.”
“Then who is she?”
The crowd buzzed with wild speculations about my identity, only to dismiss each one.
No wonder, a decade ago, our Brown Family had been a legendary force, feared and respected across the city. But as I grew up, I realized how perilous such a blood-soaked existence was. I’d spent years persuading Dad to transition the business, retreat into the shadows, and let the our group’s former notoriety fade.
When Alaric heard the crowd rule out New York’s top-tier families, his confidence surged.
He stepped forward, even more aggressively shielding Amy.
“Stop spouting nonsense. Even if you have some connections, they’re nothing compared to the Green family.”
“Let me make this clear, Amy is my girlfriend. The future mistress of the Green. Touch her again, and I’ll destroy you-even if it means risking everything the whole family has built.”
Amy, her face still swollen from my slaps, beamed triumphantly.
Alaric’s parents had never approved of her, forcing them into a secret relationship.
Now, thanks to this chaos, he’d publicly claimed her as his own-a promotion she’d never dared dream of.
Her newfound courage blazed. She screamed at me,
“You heard him, bitch! I’m the future lady of the Green family! Lay a finger on me again, and I’ll make you regret ever being born!”
What a waste, I thought, staring at Alaric’s anime-perfect face. To think he’d chosen such a vapid, gold-digging fool.
I slapped her again, harder.
“Even Bob Green, the chairman of Green Enterprises, wouldn’t dare speak to me like that. Who the hell do you think you are?”
“Today, I’ll show you what it means to meet someone truly untouchable.”
I pulled out my phone and dialed Bob’s number, holding it up for them all to see.
After a few rings, he answered, his voice laced with forced humility.

“Young Miss, how did the blind date with my son go?”
I cut straight to the chase.
“Bob, your son’s already been sleeping with his secretary. Yet you still had the gall to set him up with me? What exactly were you thinking?”
“A misunderstanding! This must be a misunderstanding!”
His voice turned frantic.”Please hold on. I’ll call him immediately and get to the bottom of this!”
“No need,” I interrupted.
“He’s right here. He even threatened to destroy the Green family over me. Why don’t you speak to him yourself?”
I shoved the phone toward Alaric. His father’s bellow erupted through the speaker,
“You ungrateful brat! Apologize to Miss Brown right now! And fire that secretary of yours-immediately!”
