Two days passed before Colsen came to find me again.
He approached me as I was heading home after work. “Elsie, where did you bury Kiara? You took all her things away, and now there’s nothing left of her at the house. When I miss her, I have nothing to hold onto. I already realize I was wrong. Why are you treating me like this?”
The strong smell of alcohol on him made me wrinkle my nose in disgust.
No matter how deep his regret ran, I remained completely unmoved.
“Colsen, it’s been five years. Let Kiara rest in peace now. You were her greatest pain in life–why disturb her even in death?”
“But she was my daughter!” he cried, his eyes turning red and his voice shaking. “Elsie, think about it–have I ever treated you or Kiara unfairly all these years? I always tried to give both of you the best I could. In my heart, you and she were my top priority. If I’m to blame for anything, it’s for losing my head and believing Astrid for going so far as to use Kiara to threaten you…
Before he could finish talking, a loud roar of a car engine came from
behind him.
When I looked back, I saw a red car racing straight at us.
“Watch out, Elsie!” he shouted, pushing me out of the way before I could
move.
With a crash, the car slammed into him, sending him flying to the pavement. A pool of blood spread out quickly beneath him, vivid and shocking.

The driver’s window lowered slowly, and Astrid’s twisted, angry face appeared. She turned the steering wheel and charged at me.

Just then, a police car appeared, slamming into hers and knocking her car aside. I narrowly avoided injury. Astrid immediately turned the car around and sped off before the police could catch her.
We were both taken to the hospital.
I only had a few scratches and wasn’t seriously hurt, but Colsen had a head injury and lost consciousness.
The doctors said that if he didn’t wake up within three days, he might
never recover.
Meanwhile, Astrid managed to escape, and the police have listed her as a fugitive.
Three days later, she unexpectedly showed up at my workplace.
She burst into my office, her face twisted with rage as she stormed toward me, laughing maniacally. “Hahaha! Elsie, is Colsen dead already? Now that he’s dead, my two kids can inherit his assets, right? Don’t think for a second, you’ll keep all his wealth! Even if I end up behind bars, I’ll make sure my sons get what’s rightfully theirs!”
I glanced at the chaotic mess of a woman in front of me and replied with cold smirk, “Who said Colsen died?”
Astrid stiffened and asked, “Wait, is he alive?”
I said with a mocking smile, “Barely. He’s in a coma.”
“That’s basically the same as being dead. That means his money still belongs to my sons!” Astrid said firmly.
I nodded, lips curling into a mocking smile. “You’re right. If Colsen had
