Chapter 6
As soon as I stepped inside, I spotted Astrid walking back and forth nervously in the living room. When she noticed me coming closer, her face twisted in fury, and she raised her hand, trying to slap me.
“Elsie, how could you call the cops on Colsen? He’s your husband! Do you have no conscience at all?”
Before her hand reached my face, I caught her wrist. I pushed her arm away and slapped her hard across the cheek.
The loud smack echoed in the room.
“Astrid, so you do know he’s my husband? Then what right do you have to show up here? Colsen and I aren’t divorced yet, so everything he owns still belongs to both of us. That includes this house. I have every right to throw you out. So take your two bastards and get out of my house!”
Astrid glared at me, her eyes full of rage. Her voice rose as she shouted, “Elsie, you’re full of yourself! Just because Colsen isn’t around, don’t think I’m scared of you!”
She raised her hand to hit me again, but I grabbed her arm and shoved her to the floor.
I shouted, “I’m not some pushover you can walk all over! You have 30 minutes to take your kids and leave. If you don’t, I’ll have someone to kick you out!”
Astrid refused to go quietly, and I didn’t feel like arguing anymore. I called in security and had them throw her and the kids out.
I may not stay in this house, but there’s no way I’ll let a homewrecker and

her children live here for free.
At the same time, I arranged for new locks to be installed on all of Colsen’s properties.
Left with no other option, Astrid took her kids to a hotel.

Two days later, Colsen was bailed out by his assistant. As soon as he was released, he rushed back to see me.
In just a few days, the man standing before me looked completely worn out. His eyes were surrounded by dark shadows, his beard was messy, and exhaustion was written all over his face.
When he saw that I was unharmed, he let out a deep breath. “Elsie, thank goodness… You’re alive…”
A moment later, his eyes turned red and tears filled his voice as he said, “I’m sorry. I never wanted Kiara to die… I didn’t realize how weak she was. I only meant to scare you using her. I didn’t think it would actually take her life. I wish I could take it all back…”
“Cut the act!” I snapped at him, not hiding the anger in my voice. “Colsen, what’s the use of crying now? Kiara is gone. No matter what you do, she won’t come back!
“Where were you when she took her last breath? Where were you when her small body lay cold in the funeral home? Where were you at her burial? You even burned her favorite dolls! And now you want to cry like
you care?”
I tilted my head and blinked hard, trying not to cry.
Shame covered Colsen’s face. He opened his mouth to speak, but no
words came out.
After quite some time, he finally spoke with a rough, broken voice, “Elsie,

where is Kiara’s grave? I want to visit her.”
“You don’t deserve to!” I shouted, my voice shaking with fury.

Colsen covered his face with his hands, tears falling steadily onto the floor. “Elsie, I know I was wrong. Kiara was my first child. I still
remember how happy I was the day she was born. Losing her broke my heart. Please let me visit her, just once.”
I ignored his crying and apology.
If you don’t value someone while they’re alive, what good is it to mourn them after they’re gone?
I took out the divorce papers from my bag and tossed them toward him. ́
I said, “Colsen, let’s get a divorce. We’ll split everything fifty–fifty. From now on, we’ll go our own ways and stay out of each other’s lives.”
“Divorce?” He froze for a second, then quickly shook his head. “No, Elsie. I’m not letting you leave me!”
“After everything that’s happened, do you really think this marriage still means anything?” I responded.
He grabbed my wrist, panicked, and tried to stop me. “Elsie, it’s always been you. You were my wife–the one I married. How could I ever divorce you? If it’s money you want, take it all. The shares, the cars, the house- everything. Just don’t leave me.
“As for Astrid, she didn’t mean anything to me. If she hadn’t used the twins to threaten me, I would’ve never stayed with her. If you hate her, I’ll get rid of her and the kids right away.”
I yanked my hand back and said coldly, “That won’t be necessary. My decision is final, Colsen. No matter what you say, we are getting
divorced.”
