I swatted the roses away and took a step back. “Stay away from me!”
Jenny stared at me. “Didn’t you say yes to him? Why are you making things hard for
me?”
She grabbed the roses and walked towards
- me. I grabbed her wrists and she grabbed the
roses and threw them in my face.
The thorns cut my face and I struggled to
breathe.
Jenny tilted her head. “Don’t you want to
know what street the Ferrari is coming from?”
I was worried. I pulled out my inhaler.
She leaned in. “It’s coming from 360. They’re
pulling something out. If the driver falls asleep and crashes, it’ll hit something.”
She was being mean. I slapped her.
“Don’t! I’ll kill you!”
Before I could grab her again, Blake grabbed my wrist.
“I thought you changed, but you’re still using your power to bully people!”
“Do you think you can do whatever you want because you’re Mrs. Williams?!”
Jenny hid behind Blake. “Mr. Williams, I followed your orders and gave her the roses, but she said that I was a slut and that you
belong to her. She said she wanted to ruin my
face and kill me.”
“My head hurts, my face hurts, am I going to
lose my face?”
Blake gave me a nasty look. “You think I
<
belong to you? You wish.”
He looked at Jenny and said, “If Jenny’s face is ruined, you’re going to lose your face too.” He took Jenny and left without looking back. My phone showed a news alert:
[A car crashed on 360 and hit the crane. They
can no longer pull it out and the location is sealed off.]
I stood there and started laughing.
Blake took Jenny to the hospital. The doctor said,
“Sorry, there’s nothing wrong with her.”
Jenny said, “I still don’t feel well.”
Blake thought about the scratches on Snow’s
face and became annoyed.
“The doctor said there’s nothing wrong with
you. Stop faking it.”
Jenny was shocked. She tried to be sweet but
Blake left her.
Chapter 2
Blake drove home, face like a thundercloud,
only to find the housekeeper scrubbing the floor like a maniac.
“What the hell’s going on? Why are you cleaning at this hour?” he snapped.
“Mrs. Williams is severely allergic to pollen, sir. Some moron sent a huge bouquet of roses. If Mr. Lin hadn’t found her passed out, things could have been really bad.”
Blake vaguely remembered Snow being hospitalized for a pollen allergy years ago, and a sliver of guilt poked at him.
But his radar was finely tuned for bullshit.
“This Mr. Lin… who is he?”
“He said he’s a friend of Mrs. Williams, sir.
Seems young. I don’t know who he is…”
Blake’s gut twisted. He yanked out his phone
and ordered his assistant to track Snow
down
When he finally found her room, what he saw
made his blood boil.
Snow was lying in the hospital bed, hooked
up to an IV. Some young, hot dude was
leaning over her, planting a kiss right on her
lips.
Then he fed her a piece of apple, like some
lovesick puppy. And she didn’t push him
away. She just rolled her eyes at him, like a
spoiled brat.
The guy whined, “I booked a room, you know!
But your dumbass husband ruined it with his
damn roses. You owe me big time when you
get out of here.”
Snow giggled and nodded, all sweetness and
light. “Okay, baby. Whatever you want.”
Blake stood there, frozen.
He’d suggested an open marriage because he
wanted to play around. But he never imagined
Snow would actually do it.
The pale circle on his ring finger where his
wedding band used to be screamed out at
him. He realized he hadn’t worn it in weeks.
Every other time they had argued, every time
he had taken it off, Snow would beg for him
to put it on.
But not this time.
Betrayal and rage exploded in his chest. He
kicked the door open, not giving a damn who
saw.
The door slamming open caught the attention
of several nurses passing by.
