His Open Marriage
Chapter 1
Another goddamn anniversary, another reason
to find Blake caught with his pants down.
I walked in on him and his bimbo secretary
sprawled across our bed, him saying some
garbage like, “You’re way more fun than
Snow, that ice queen. She’s like a dead fish in
bed. No matter what I do, she just lays there.”
The second I kicked open the door, Blake’s
face went from lust to pure, unadulterated
annoyance. Not even a flicker of guilt.
“Are you seriously gonna start with the
waterworks again, Snow? You’re not some
twenty–year–old chasing after fairytale love.
This whole pathetic act just pisses me off,
gets you zero sympathy from me.”
He yanked off his wedding band and tossed it
on the nightstand, that smug look plastered
on his face. “Fine. Go get yourself a boy toy.
<
Open marriage, happy now?”
I turned around and walked out. What he said
was true: I’m too old to die over love.
And I did exactly as he asked. I stopped
caring about his pathetic life and got myself a
boy toy.
Blake instantly regretted it.
The slam of the door echoed through the
house.
Like I was interrupting something important.
As Blake and his secretary left, he had the
audacity to say:
“Boring.”
On the granite countertop were the remains
of their meal. Half–eaten appetizers, half-
empty wine glasses, and candles about to
burn out.
Clothes were scattered everywhere. I didn’t
need to be a detective to figure out what had
<
happened.
I stared at the wedding band Blake had
tossed on the floor, but, unlike the dozens of
times before, I didn’t pick it up. I didn’t beg
him to put it back on.
I smirked, but acted as if I didn’t see it.
My heart was already numb. A text from my
assistant popped up on my screen:
“Mrs. Williams, your anniversary dinner and
gift have been delivered! The boss personally
signed for them! He told me that I did a great
job! Hope you two have a great night! ;)”
“Enjoy! ;)”
I managed a laugh. The dinner was enjoyed,
but I wasn’t the one that enjoyed it.
Not in the mood to sleep in a house where my
husband just banged another woman, I
packed my bag and drove away.
I drove around for a while but couldn’t find
anywhere to go.
Five years ago, my family went bankrupt, and my mom was pushed off a cliff by some loan. shark. She died instantly.
My dad, desperate for money, drugged me and sent me to Blake’s bed. Then, he leaked the story to the press to force Blake to marry
- me.
Blake and I had no love, and the marriage was
based on blackmail.
Even though I had spent the last few years
trying to win Blake over, he never gave me the time of day.
My dad remarried a year after Mom died.
I knew I didn’t have a home, but I ended up at
my parents‘ house.
I walked towards the door when the butler
tried to get my attention.
I signaled for him to stop and walked forward.
Before I even opened the door, I saw my dad,
stepmom, and half–brother through the
window having dinner.
My dad gave my half–brother a new toy car,
smiling like he was the happiest man on
Earth.
The boy dropped his food and started driving
the toy car around the house.
I remembered when I was eight. I asked for a soda during dinner.
My dad yelled at me. “Eat your food. Don’t
ask for stupid things. Don’t speak. You have
no manners! What was your mother teaching
you?”
I
I could still hear the crickets chirping, but felt
like all the blood was drained from my body.
My stepmom looked at my dad and said,
“Your son–in–law called, saying Snow started
another fight. I’m not her real mom. Maybe
you should talk to her.”
When I heard my name, my dad became
annoyed
L
“Again? It’s just some woman! What man doesn’t mess around? Besides, Blake
promised the position of Mrs. Williams will
always be for her, so I don’t know what she’s fighting about.”
My stepmom sighed. “She doesn’t have a
