Chapter 3
After a long time, I fought through my tears to wake up.
“Where’s Grandma? Where is she?” I asked.
“I dreamed her surgery didn’t go well. Please say it’s not true.”
Eric held me close. “Maddie, it’s true. Grandma was too old to pull through.”
Tears rolled down my cheeks as I pressed my nails into my palms to keep calm. “Please, take me to see Grandma.”
Eric gave me a sympathetic look. “She’s in the morgue. I’ll take you there as soon as you’re able to move.
I stopped resisting and asked in a hollow voice, “Where is my dress?”
Eric couldn’t meet my eyes while Jessica wept theatrically.
“I’m sorry, Maddie. When the doctor removed Grandma’s liver, it was so revolting that I vomited on your dress. The cleaner mistook it for garbage and discarded it.”
In a flash, I felt an overwhelming wave of despair.
I hadn’t managed to keep Grandma aliye, and now I couldn’t protect the one thing she had left me.
Thurled the cup at Jessica in a fit of rage, crying out uncontrollably, “How could you ruin the wedding dress grandma gave me? How could you misplace it?”

“I’m so sorry, Maddie! I didn’t realize it was a wedding dress your grandma gave you,” she pleaded as the cup barely missed her eye, and she fell to her knees, weeping theatrically.
“Please don’t be mad. I’ll find it for you right away.”
Eric stepped in her way. “You’re pregnant–take it easy.”
He spoke gently to reassure me. “Maddie, you’re not well right now. Don’t upset yourself. Even though Grandma is gone, I’m still here for you.”
‘If the dress is gone, I’ll find you the most beautiful one in the world. I’ll spend my life making it up to you.‘
I gazed at him with sorrowful eyes. “Eric, you’re all I have left.“‘
Eric’s eyes held genuine warmth. “Don’t worry. I’ll always be by your side.”
I nestled into his embrace, suppressing a grimace.
I thought, “You’re only staying because my plan needs you to, so I can witness your descent into eternal damnation.
While Eric was at the hospital with me, I arranged for pinhole cameras to be discreetly installed throughout the house.
Each night, they recorded proof of Eric and Jessica’s escapades in various
rooms.

On the day I was released, as I headed to the morgue to pick up Grandma, I got a text message.
“Everything is prepared.”
A moment later, Eric’s phone buzzed.

Chapter 3
It was Jessica, crying, “Mr. Sullivan, my car was hit while it was parked on the street! The driver was really aggressive, I’m frightened… and my stomach hurts.”
Eric paused and looked at me. “Maddie, there’s an urgent situation at the company. I have to leave immediately.”
I nodded in agreement. “Just drive carefully.”

I spent an entire day kneeling in the mourning hall.
As I glanced at the bloodletting records in my notebook, tears flowed freely down my face.
Just one more day, I can seek justice for Grandma.
