Chapter 2
When Jordan came back, it was already late at night.
As Jordan’s assistant, Melanie took care of everything from daily chores to work documents, helping him start from scratch.
The two of them were inseparable, and for the sake of convenience in their work, Melanie even moved in to live with him.
At this moment, Melanie sat on the sofa, choosing the style of her wedding dress for her wedding seven days later on her tablet, while talking on the phone with someone to discuss the details.
Jordan, who had returned from a social engagement, was somewhat surprised to see that Melanie did not greet him proactively or take off his coat for
him. Instead, she was sitting on the couch making a phone call.
But I could still vaguely catch the words “wedding dress” and “wedding” in it.
Jordan stood at the entrance, rubbing his temples slightly, seeming a bit impatient. Unable to hold back, he reminded Melanie, “What are you doing? Didn’t you see me come back?”
Melanie put down her phone, raised her eyelids and glanced at Jordan, then said, “I didn’t do anything, I knew you came back.”
Jordan’s brows furrowed with displeasure upon hearing the words, and then he naturally took off his coat and handed it to Melanie.
He had already gotten used to Melanie’s care. Whenever he came home, Melanie would take the initiative to take his clothes and wash them.
But now, Melanie refused, “The washing machine is right there, if you want to wash, you can put the clothes in the washing machine and wash them yourself.”
Melanie has always been obedient and never refused any of his requests.
The sudden rejection made Jordan’s slightly intoxicated peach blossom eyes squint slightly as he looked at Melanie inquisitively.
He couldn’t say what was wrong, but he always felt that something had changed.
Melanie appeared as usual, showing no signs of any unusual emotions.
Jordan clicked his tongue irritably and said, “Couture clothes must be hand–washed.”
“Then take it to the laundry shop.”
A series of setbacks made Jordan’s anger skyrocket. He impatiently tugged at his tie, and his tone also turned cold.
“What the hell got into you today?”

Melanie pursed her lips and felt that arguing with Jordan was pointless. There was nothing else to say, so she decided to go back to her room.
After entering the room, Melanie heard Jordan seemingly talking to someone outside the door.
I didn’t want to pay attention, but the poor soundproofing of the room made it impossible. She just left a gap in the door, and Jordan’s voice came through clearly from outside.
Jordan’s gentle voice was filled with unattainable arrogance.
I just got home and found out that Melanie had already been picking out wedding dresses. Did she see the live interview and think that I would marry her when I turn thirty?
“I said those things just to appease the reporters, but it is true that I promised Danica to marry her in seven days.”
The person on the phone seemed to be saying why you didn’t tell Melanie the truth.
Jordan sneered, his handsome face appearing even more cold–hearted in the mocking sound.
“Are you willing to just casually throw away the nanny who has been with us for over a decade? If you really want to get rid of her, then wait until seven days later when I marry Danica.”
“What if Melanie found out?”
Jordan chuckled, “I hid it well, she couldn’t find out. And even if she did, what does it matter? She’s so infatuated with me, I can easily manipulate her like a lapdog. It won’t cause much trouble.”
“I’m telling you, don’t let slip of the tongue now…”
Melanie didn’t want to listen any further and went back to her room. She felt as if her heart was immersed in an icy pond, chilling her to the bone.
Originally, she was a “licking dog” in Jordan’s heart, someone who could be easily appeased with just a flick of the finger.
I blame myself for not realizing it earlier. I knew he would never marry me, yet I still followed him for twelve years.
