Chapter 6
Edwin had just arrived at the company when Lena followed in, saying, “Mr. Gore, this is yesterday’s
contract.”
Lena placed the file on the table and walked over to Edwin, placing a hand on his shoulder, as if she
had done it countless times before.
In the past, it was an unspoken ambiguity between the two of them.
Now, Edwin suddenly felt a bit uncomfortable.
After sitting up straight, Edwin opened the document and furrowed his brow after only reading one
page.
Even the most basic terms were expressed in plain language, without any hint of professionalism.
Not to mention the breach clauses that could bankrupt the company.
It was full of loopholes.
Before, I used to carefully read each contract three times before giving it to him, in order to avoid any risks that could affect the company’s interests.
This current…
Edwin slammed the file onto the table and spoke in a cold tone, “Who made this report? Do they not have basic work skills?”
“Call Ashlee for me, I want to ask her if she still wants to work!”
Lena’s face suddenly turned ugly.
“Mr. Gore, this was done by me.”
All the anger turned into silence in an instant.
Edwin glanced at Lena, her eyes red and filled with sadness, her face full of grievances. For the first time, a sense of powerlessness arose in his heart.
She wiped away her tears, looking pitifully: “I’m sorry, Mr. Gore, it was my fault…”
“Perhaps, just as Ms. Owen said, I was completely unfit for this position and only caused trouble for you…”
After saying that, she turned around and wanted to leave.

Edwin instinctively grabbed her, but he suddenly froze when he met Lena’s pitiful gaze.
Ashlee never had that kind of look in her eyes.
She was proud.
No matter what happened, she would always find a way to solve it, instead of being like Lena…
Even in the face of his anger, she would calmly tell him, “Lena is careless in her work, she is not suitable to be your secretary.”
So every time Lena had a problem, Ashlee would step in and solve it.
So later on, whenever Lena had a problem, he would instinctively push Ashlee away.
So…
Just as Edwin was about to say the comforting words, the moment got stuck in his throat and his hands slowly loosened.
“You go out first.”

Lena’s face turned red and then pale, she didn’t get the comfort she wanted, and she was on the
verge of tears.
When Edwin saw it, he impatiently rubbed his forehead and said, “Redraft this contract and make sure there are no issues before submitting it again.”
Lena bit her lower lip and, in the end, unwillingly left.
A colleague who had a good relationship with me recorded this scene and later sent it to my phone.
Ms. Owen, that Lena who always intentionally stole our achievements was kicked out today, haha,
serves her right!
In the office, Edwin repeatedly dialed my number, but he could never get through.
Although he had been comforting himself in his mind, he could see that my workstation remained
empty.
It still made him extremely annoyed.
Even when dealing with work, he became careless.
Edwin saw my empty workstation, and his growing unease weighed heavily on his mind.
In the end, he couldn’t resist and called the HR director, Patrick.

“Mr. Gore, was there any work to be assigned?”
“Ashlee took a day off today?”
Edwin looked at the documents in front of him and casually spoke.
Patrick paused for a moment, looking at him with a puzzled expression on his face.
“Ms. Owen resigned.”
“What?!”
Edwin’s hand, which had signed, suddenly jerked, tearing the pristine paper with the tip of the pen.
“When did it happen? Who agreed to it? How come I didn’t know?”
Patrick wondered and spoke, “You agreed this morning to what I suggested last night!”
These words made Edwin feel as if he had been struck by something, leaving him completely stunned on the spot.
Afterwards, he opened the computer and quickly scanned through the emails on it, trembling as he clicked open the only resignation letter.
Finally, after seeing the signature “Ashlee,” a huge sense of panic swept over me.
“Immediately withdraw this application! Right now!”
Patrick wiped the cold sweat off his forehead and trembled as he spoke, “Mr. Gore, the process has been completed…”
Outside the office, Lena walked in holding a document, her eyes showing no recent grievances, and
even a hint of happiness. “Mr. Gore, here is your fax.”
Edwin’s gaze swept over the four big words “divorce agreement” on the paper, and he slumped
back into his chair.
It took a long time to recover.
Edwin took out his phone and made a call to his good friend, his voice hoarse and unclear. “Can you help me check where this sender’s ID is?”
