Chapter 1
In a relationship for four years, Marcel Doyle missed my personally organized art exhibition for the fifty–seventh time.
He said that the company had an urgent meeting and couldn’t get away, but he promised to accompany me next time.
I was about to say it’s okay when I saw Marcel’s intern across the street in the newly opened dessert shop, holding a cone with lipstick marks and bringing it close to his mouth.
Marcel had a cleanliness obsession, and he never ate anything sweet when he was with me.
But the next second, he held back the ice cream cone that was being handed to his mouth.
Nyla Blake’s sweet and pleasant voice came through, “Mr. Doyle, you didn’t go to the art exhibition, will Alexa be upset?”
“What’s she getting angry about,” Marcel chuckled disdainfully, and then he casually put his arm around his assistant’s waist, “They’re just some dull and lifeless paintings, nothing compared to
your vibrant beauty”
Marcel said that he would propose to me on his birthday this year.
I looked at the calendar and saw that there were three days left until my birthday.

The bantering words between the two of us still lingered in my ears, and my heart couldn’t help but
ache dully.
“Mr. Doyle,” Nyla bit her lip, her face filled with a smug tone but a sweet demeanor, “Even Alexa has invited you so many times, and you have stood her up every time. Isn’t that not very nice?”
“What’s the big deal? Besides, when have I not had something important to do?” Marcel affectionately scratched Nyla’s nose. “The last time was your birthday, the time before that you had a stomachache, and the time before that was at the hotel when you said you wanted…”
“Oh Mr. Doyle! Why do you blurt out everything!” Nyla blushed and quickly covered his mouth.
Marcel smiled and grabbed Nyla’s hand, holding it in his palm, and planted a kiss on it. “How can this be your fault? It’s not like she knows how to choose the right day. Who can we blame?”
My vision became blurred, and tears uncontrollably fell from my eyes.

I was in a relationship with Marcel for four years, and it is only today that I feel like I truly see him.
I remembered the day of our second anniversary, when I accidentally bumped into him and he immediately dropped the cake I had carefully prepared, angrily cursing me as disgusting.
“Alexa Barr, you clearly knew that I had a cleanliness obsession, yet you touched me with your dirty hands. It’s truly disgusting!”
Marcel frowned in disgust, and he flung the alcohol wipe that he had just used to clean his hands. onto my face before striding away, completely ignoring my ruined makeup and the whispers of the people around us.
I apologized in a sorry state, struggling to clean the cream smeared on the restaurant floor. Alcohol splashed into my eyes, making it impossible for me to open them.
Later, he explained to me that he said, “Alexa, don’t overthink it. He treats everyone the same.”
Back then, I believed it, but now the fragments in my mind have become jumbled, and my gaze ultimately fixed on Marcel devouring the ice cream cone handed to him by Nyla.
“Alexa, the art exhibition is about to start!” Assistant Lacey Pollard hurriedly came out to find me. “Is the final piece still not being exhibited this time?”
Painting? I remembered.
I once painted a picture for Marcel, depicting how we first met.
At that time, I happily told him that when he proposed to me, I would definitely exhibit this painting and tell the world how happy we had been all along.
But now… I laugh at myself, it’s no longer necessary.
“Yes, it won’t be exhibited this time,” I smiled gently at her. “However, this painting will be announced at the art exhibition in three days, and everyone is welcome to come and see it.”
After the art exhibition was over, it was already afternoon. I just opened my phone and saw numerous missed calls from Marcel.
In the midst of hesitation, Marcel’s phone rang again.
“Alexa, you haven’t come back yet, right?” Marcel’s voice was filled with anxiety and impatience. “I’ll be working late tonight, remember to bring two portions of food. Also, bring a portion of strawberry sweet soup.”
Nyla’s sweet voice came closer, saying, “You need to add cream!”
