Owen approached with a mischievous grin, addressing Rose playfully. “Miss Rose, you’ve got to be kidding me. You’re gorgeous, brilliant, and a talented doctor, yet you wasted your time on this–a man who has no morals. Aren’t there enough men in the world? Even if you randomly picked one, he’d still be miles better than him.”
Owen couldn’t help but wonder how someone as exceptional as Houston, always surrounded by high–society women and heiresses, ended up marrying someone with unresolved feelings for another man
Ethan, angered by Owen’s remarks, retorted, “And who are you supposed to be? Don’t you have work to do on a weekday? Or are you just another unemployed busybody?”
Owen burst out laughing. “Now I understand why you lost, Rose. It’s not because you lacked anything, but because this man’s taste is beyond terrible. Flashing his branded badge, he added with a smirk, “Owen–actor, singer, and writer.”
Ethan. realizing his mistake, looked visibly uncomfortable.
Rose observed Owen closely. His last name matched Houston’s, so they were likely related.
As the thought sa
in, Owen’s boldness became increasingly appealing to her.
Aaron and Grace, realizing the situation was turning against them, tried to redirect the conversation. Aaron spoke cautiously. Rose, the situation with Vivian, Ethan, and you is a private matter between our families. There’s no need to escalate this publicly. Let’s leave it at that for now.
Owen cut him off sharply. “Of course, the guilty party doesn’t want to escalate things. After all, your daughter stole her best friend’s fiance. If this got out, it would be a huge embarrassment. And as a deputy director of cardiology, you’d probably face harsh criticism too.
Aaron was stunned into silence, his attempts at deflecting completely shut down
Grace, seeing Aaron’s failure, tried another approach. She spoke to Rose with a tone of forced concern. “Rose, your mom’s condition will likely require Aaron’s help in the future. You’re a smart girl–turning this into a feud won’t do her any good.”
threatening Owen, shocked by their manipulation, casually placed his hand on Rose’s shoulder and said sharply. “Are you Rose? The wife of a deputy director of cardiology making such ridiculous claims? Rose doesn’t need your so–called help. Houston has already arranged for the best cardiologist in the world to treat Madam Linda. You’re irrelevant now.”
Grace’s face flushed bright red, her embarrassment palpable.
Rose couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “Owen, is that true?”
No one present believed Owen had arranged for a doctor. To them, he seemed like someone who simply acted impulsively in
the hear of the moment.
But to their surprise, Owen snapped his fingers, and his manager appeared, leading Jason’s renowned medical team into the
Aaron, recognizing the world–class cardiologist, was left utterly stunned.
“Dr. Jason, please take excellent care of Madam Linda, Owen said cheerfully.
Jason, with a touch of humor, replied, “I will. If anything goes wrong, Houston would probably kill me.”
Owen laughed. “So even you’re afraid of that tyrant, Houston?”
Rose quickly explained landa’s condition to Jason, who nodded and led his team inside.
Meanwhile, Ethan and the Brown family stood outside, embarrassed and utterly confused.
Their thoughts raced. Why would Ouen go to such lengths for Rase!
“How does Rose even know someone
as influential as O
Owen?”

The Browns had hoped to use Linda’s illness to mend relations between the families, but instead, their plan completely. backfired, leaving them humiliated.
After leaving the hospital, Ethan walked in silence, his mind preoccupied.
Vivian noticed his distracted state and felt uneasy. Ethan was always focused on his career, and one reason he chose Vivian over Rose was her father’s influence.
But now, seeing Rose connected to someone as powerful as Owen, Vivian couldn’t help but worry that Ethan’s feelings might
The stolen love left Vivian feeling deeply insecure. Watching Ethan closely, she tugged at his sleeve and spoke in a biting tone. “Rose isn’t someone who socializes easily. From her reaction, it’s obvious she just met Owen. There’s no way he arranged for Dr. Jason just for her. Linda must have gotten lucky and been chosen for a free treatment program. The hospital probably set it up.
Ethan nodded in agreement. Vivian’s reasoning seemed logical enough.
While Jason examined Linda in the hospital room, Owen took Rose into the hallway to have a word about Houston.
- e. I’m Houston’s younger brother. He’s been really concerned about you. He told me you haven’t contacted him in two or three days, and you’re not answering his calls or replying to his messages. Could you please find a moment to call him?”
Rose felt a mix of guilt and embarrassment. “My mom’s illness came on so suddenly. I’ve been at the hospital with her and haven’t had a chance to go home.
Owen sighed in relief, feeling less frustrated with Rose’s unresponsiveness towards Houston.
Rose borrowed Owen’s phone and called Houston’s number.
However, Houston declined the call.
Rose returned the phone with a resigned expression. “He’s probably in a meeting.”
Owen muttered to himself, “A meeting doesn’t mean he can’t take the call,”
He quickly typed a message to Houston. “That missed call was from Rose.”
After sending it, he handed the phone back to Rose. “Try again.”
Rose hesitated but decided to give it another shot.
This time, Houston answered instantly.
Owen’s eyes widened in disbelief. “Unreal! Houston, you’re so unfair! You answer Rose’s calls but not
minel
Rose laughed, unable to help herself. She explained to Houston, I didn’t have my phone on me, so I couldn’t call you back earlier. I’m sorry for making you worry
Houston’s gentle voice replied, “Rose, how’s your mom doing?”
he’s stable now,” Rose answered, her voice soft.
“I’m coming home today,” Houston suddenly said.
Rose was surprised. “But I thought you weren’t coming back for another two weeks!”
After a brief silence, Houston said. “I miss you”
Owen exaggeratedly leaned over a trash can, pretending to gag. “Ugh…”
Though it was clearly exaggerated, his dramatic display left an impression. Straightening up, he added never imagined the terrifying Houston could be this sweet
Houston, unamused, replied coldly. “Owen, is your allowance next month too high
