Chapter 18
After that day?
Hunter kept popping up.
Never intrusive. Always casual.
But my roommate?
She caught on fast.
Senior summer rolled around. We were lining up internships. Hunter connected us with a killer job lead.
After the dinner meet-and-greet, my roommate leaned in close on the walk home.
“Be honest—does your hot neighbor have a girlfriend?”
My chest tightened. “Why? You into him?”
She raised a brow like I was an idiot. “Girl, no. I’ve got a rotation already.”
“But… he’s totally into you.”
My breath hitched. “W-what?”
She smirked. “Savvy. Come on. You think I haven’t noticed?”
“No guy sticks around for three years just for kicks.”
“And let’s be real—you like him back, don’t you?”
I stared at her, speechless.
She leaned in, smug as hell. “I’ve slept six feet from you for three years. You like the Daddy types.”
I wanted to deny it. Couldn’t.
“Thought so.”
Then she got weirdly serious. “Listen. If you want him, go get him.”
“He’s what—eight years older? Dude’s pushing 30. Men expire, babe.”
“In five years, he’ll be bald and emotionally unavailable. But right now? Prime grade A man.”
“Go tap that.”
I covered my face. “Shut. Up.”
Hunter, meanwhile?
Driving back alone, sneezed so hard he nearly veered into the next lane.
