Chapter 5
Lila spat at me. “Ugh. What a pathetic old hag. Copying us when we ran away from home? Please. You’re nothing but a cheap knockoff. It’s laughable. Seriously, have you no shame?“.
“Do yourself a favor and get lost.”
“Or else.”
Blair stepped forward, sneering as she stared me down. “Elise Whitman, don’t tell me you actually think Travis still has feelings for You?”
“Wanna test it? See who he really cares about–you or us?”
Her eyes lit with something manic as she pulled out a bottle of gasoline.
My brows knitted. I stepped aside warily. “What are you two trying to do?”
But before I could react, they lunged at me together and struck the match.
Then, they called Travis. “Travis! Help us! We came to check on Elise, and she tried to burn us alive!”
Cough, cough!
The flames roared to life. I raced for the door, but they held me back with all their strength.
Smoke filled my lungs, and the fire surged toward me, licking at my legs.
I yanked myself free, soaked a curtain, and held it to my face to keep from choking.
The next second, the door burst open.
Travis rushed in and scooped nie up. “Elise, are you okay?!”
But then Blair and Lila’s screams echoed behind him. “Help! Travis, help us!”
He just set me down with hesitation and ran toward them. He grabbed them both and dragged them through the flames.
The force of it knocked me off balance–I hit the floor, reaching after him. “Travis…”
He turned around, eyes locking with mine. But Blair whimpered, and he whipped his head back. “Hang in there, sweetheart. I’ve got you. We’re almost out!”
Not even a glance. He just kept walking.
As the fire engulfed me, I closed my eyes in absolute despair.
Three days later, Travis Langley married Blair and Lila Hawthorne in Bangladesh.
The three of them flew straight to Europe for a honeymoon. He spent a full month showing them around
He even posted a photo on social media–two bloodstains on a white bedsheet, a smug victory sign flashed to the camera.
The comments were glowing “Lucky bastard! Two for one! Travis, you legend!”
“Congrats, man–double win!”
But standing on a hotel balcony, cigarette dangling from his lips, Travis felt no joy at all. Just an odd, growing unease. He refreshed the screen. Again. And again.
After pulling Blair and Lila out of the fire that night, they’d sobbed, claiming Elise had tried to burn them alive.
He’d meant to run in after her, to pull her out–but their voices stopped him cold,

He hadn’t even slept with Blair and Lila yet, and Elise had nearly destroyed it all. She needed a lesson.
So he told the bodyguards wait five minutes. Then go in and get her. After that he just took the sisters straight to the airport.
Get it over with, he thought. Marry them, take the trip, and come back later to coax Elise into forgiving him.
But the entire month went by. Not a single message from Elise. Not one reply
The silence gnawed at him. He couldn’t take it anymore. He grabbed his coat and stormed out of the hotel.
Blair and Lila were still lost in the afterglow when they caught his movements. In a panic, they grabbed his hand. “Travis, baby, where are you going?”
He shook them off, cold and impatient. “Home”
But what he returned to nearly drove him insane…..
