When I asked, Sadie’s smug smile only widened. “Tara, have you gotten dumb from staying home with kids too long? In all of San Francisco, is there even a Quinlan Group left that you don’t know about?
“My direct boss is Brody Quinlan–you know, the richest guy in Northern California.
“When the time comes, I’ll just sweet–talk him a little, and he’ll hand over contracts with a fortune to Patrick. His company will totally blow up after that.”
Patrick hugged her like she was the pride of the century and kissed her on the forehead. “Sadie really is my family’s little hero!”
Then he turned to me with a look full of disdain. “Did you hear that? Now say sorry to Sadie.”
I smiled and replied straight–up, “She’s not getting into the Quinlan Group.”
Back then, Brody wanted to ruin this cheating, scheming couple. If I hadn’t stepped in, out of a sense of debt to the Connery family, their name would have been wiped out already.
And her so–called “boss“?
Brody would never let anyone who hurt me step foot into the Quinlan Group.
Sadie’s face twisted a little, not satisfied. “Why would you say that?”
I looked at both of them calmly. “Because I’m his wife.”

As soon as I said it, Patrick completely snapped. He told his bodyguards to drag me out of the airport and throw me into his car. “You’re my woman! Who told you that you could dream about someone else?
“I have been way too nice to you!”
They took me back to Connery’s manor and punished me.
Patrick pulled out a long whip with thorns and lashed me hard across the back.
“My mom saved your life back then. She pitied you and asked me to marry you into the Connery family.
“I’ve never mistreated you. I was only with Sadie to make sure our bloodline would continue. And how dare you say that you’re another
man’s wife?
“Do you even see me as your husband anymore?”
My eyes turned red. He chased me for three whole years before I finally gave in and married him. I even poured all the inheritance my parents left me into the Connery family business.
I always remembered the kindness his family showed me. After we got married, I did everything I could to be a good wife–supporting him, keeping the family together.
Even though I struggled with infertility, he promised I was the only woman he would ever love.
But he broke that promise. He even forced me to divorce him, just so he could marry Sadie and apply for a visa to go abroad with her.
The pain from the whip was searing, but I looked Patrick in the eyes and said, “We’ve been divorced for a long time.”

He froze, his face full of confusion at first, and then it softened. “Oh, that was just on paper. We’ll remarry after my wedding.”
Sadie’s face flickered with jealousy. She suddenly picked up the child and said in a pitiful voice, “Patrick, maybe I shouldn’t live here. I don’t want to ruin your relationship with Tara.”
The moment my child saw me getting hurt, he bit Sadie’s arm with all his might.
Sadie screamed and, in a fit of anger, threw the child aside.
I dashed over like crazy, but it was too late. The child hit the ground and started crying in pain.
I held the child tightly, tears falling as I asked softly, “Sweetheart, where does it hurt?”
Patrick glanced at Sadie’s hand, then turned toward the child with anger in his voice. “What kind of behavior is this? Biting someone? As his father, I have to teach him a lesson!”
He pointed outside. “Tie him to the post. Maybe then he’ll realize who truly cares for him.”
I froze in shock. “Patrick, you can’t do that!
“It’s snowing–he’ll get sick!”
Instead of listening, Patrick pulled me aside harshly and ripped my
clothes off.
His expression was dark with frustration. “You’ve forgotten your place because I’ve been too lenient with you and haven’t exercised my right as your husband for too long.”
After he said that, he bit my chest.

I delivered a slap to his face immediately, my eyes filled with anger. “Patrick, you’re going too far. One day, you’re going to regret all of this.”
