Chapter 2
“Sadie already has a master’s degree from Harvard University. She’s way more qualified than you to be the matriarch of the Connery family. If I wasn’t being considerate of you…”
Patrick kept rambling on, not even realizing what I had just said until way later. He paused, confused, and asked, “Wait, what did you say?”
Sadie stood to the side and gave me this soft, pitying look. “Tara, how could you say something so hurtful? I don’t want to fight with you. As long as I can be with Patrick and the child, I’m happy.”
Patrick looked all touched and grabbed Sadie’s hand. “You’re always so understanding.”
This book had been added on your bookshelf.
Then he turned to me, gave me a once–over, and sneered, “Every luxury item you’re wearing right now was bought with my money. And now you say you remarried?
“Without me, who would’ve given you this life of luxury?
“Tara, the Connery family isn’t what it used to be. If you want to keep your lifestyle, you’d better start treating Sadie with some respect.
“From now on, Sadie’s moving in. She’ll bond with the kid.
“If you can’t raise him right, then let his real mom do it!”
Sadie gave me this smug little look. I could not be bothered to argue and just glanced down at my phone. Brody Quinlan had sent me a message, “Babe, I’ve got a business meeting in Europe. You’ve been tied up taking care of the kid lately, but I’ll make it up to you when I get back!”

Right after that, 15 million landed in my account.
“For my wife and kid to have a nice afternoon tea.”
Then he sent a little emoji begging for praise.
The weight in my chest instantly lifted, and I smiled as I typed back, “Focus on work. We’ll be here when you get back.”
Just as I looked up, I saw Sadie trying to feed the kid chocolate.

‘Come on, sweetie. Mommy brought some chocolate from overseas. Come try it!”
I rushed over and slapped the chocolate out of her hand. “He can’t eat that,” I said, glaring.
Suddenly, Sadie stumbled backward and screamed, “Ah! Patrick, help
me!”
Patrick shoved me aside to catch her.
I lost my balance and hit the ground hard.
The people around us started whispering louder. “Wow, what kind of nanny won’t even let the kid’s mom feed him?”
“She looks shady, honestly. Dressed all fancy like that–bet she’s been skimming money from the family for years!”
I was actually speechless.
Some brat actually poured coffee on me and yelled, “Take down the villain!”
My phone flew out during the chaos and landed on the floor. Before I could grab it, the same kid picked it up and started playing with it like it

was a toy.
My face turned cold. I had rushed back in such a hurry that I did not bring any bodyguards, and I definitely had not expected to end up in a mess like this.
I turned to the crowd and said firmly, “I’m not a nanny, and this is my child with my current husband.”

However, no one cared. Their judging voices completely drowned me out.
I tried to stand up. I just wanted to leave.
But someone shoved me back down to the ground.
Patrick’s shiny leather shoes stopped in front of me. He stared down like I was dirt and ordered, “Apologize to Sadie.”
I tried to fight back, but he slapped me again. “Tara, Sadie’s pregnant with my baby. She’s doing something great for my family.
“I let you keep the title of Mrs. Connery out of kindness. If you keep using that to pick on Sadie, I can take it all away from you in a heartbeat.”
Out of nowhere, my mind flashed back to that night three years ago. I was waiting at home, hoping Patrick would come back. However, instead of him, I got his baby with Sadie.
He had looked me in the eye back then and promised it was just a one- time mistake, and that he would end things with her and come home to
- me.
I was already heartbroken, but I still gave him another chance because his mother once saved my life.
And in the end, Patrick dumped a crying, hungry newborn on me and left to follow Sadie overseas so she could finish school. I was nothing more

than a babysitter to them.
The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. I fought to break free.

That was when Sadie stepped in with her usual fake kindness, trying to “help” me up. “Patrick, don’t be mad. Let Tara go. I don’t blame her.‘
As she said that, she gently rubbed her belly with a smug little smile. “Besides, I’ve just been accepted by the Quinlan Group. Once I’m busy with work, Tara will still need to help me take care of things at home.”
My eyes narrowed, and I asked, “Which Quinlan Group?”
