Chapter 6
On the peaceful beach, my “body” was neatly arranged on the sand, covered with a white sheet.[]
Knox approached from a distance, falling to the ground several times.]
He didn’t believe it.[]
He couldn’t accept that the cold body before him was mine.[]
He couldn’t believe that someone who loved him as much as I did would leave him along with their baby.
But when Knox stumbled to the white sheet and gently lifted it,[]
He saw a face that was barely recognizable and a body that had long stopped breathing.
A nearby police officer looked at Knox with sympathy:
“Sir, the deceased’s features are damaged because the body was in the water too long.”
“But we’ve already sent samples for DNA testing, and the results should be in soon…”
“O
Before he could finish, a message came through on his phone. After checking it, the officer showed it to Knox:
“Look here, the deceased’s identity is Reagan. Is she your wife?“]
These words struck Knox like a hammer blow, extinguishing the last glimmer of hope in his heart.]
He fell to his knees, embracing the body and breaking down in tears.]
“Reagan, Keagan, it’s me, Knox! Please open your eyes and look at me!“]
“Why? Why did you leave me? I was wrong. I shouldn’t have hurt you or thrown away your mother’s necklace. If anyone deserved punishment, it was me! Why did you jump? How could you be so foolish!”
“We promised to hever be apart. Reagan, you broke your promise. I’m begging you, open your eyes and look at me. Don’t leave me alone, please!”
“And our baby–I only found out today that you were pregnant, two and a half months along. Why didn’t you tell me? If I had known, I would never have…”
Before finishing, he slapped his own face repeatedly.
As memories of his recent actions flooded his mind,[]
The more he thought about it,[]
The more devastated he became.
What had he done? First, he cheated on his wife with another woman, then planned to raise that woman’s baby, even brought her into their marital home, into their master bedroom…
Worst of all, he had allowed others to harm me–the very person he had vowed on our wedding day to protect from all hurt and tears.
Chapter 6
Now he had done it all…[]
What had he been thinking?![]
Knox desperately clung to my body, resisting all attempts by the police to separate him. He called my name over and over, devastated and heartbroken.[]
But the only response was the cold, lifeless body before him.]
After some time, a junior officer arrived to report on a group of thugs arrested the previous day who were confessing their recent mişdeeds.
Until the officer mentioned something strange–these men claimed a Miss Skylar had paid them a large sum to pretend to beat her up.
“Can you believe it, Chief? There are actually people paying for this kind of thing!“]
These words made Knox’s ears ring, his blood seemingly flowing backward.]
Miss Skylar?
Pretend to beat her?
So those men weren’t hired by Reagan, but by…?]
Knox rushed forward and grabbed the officer’s shoulders. “Where are these men? Take me to them!“]]
At the police station, Knox saw familiar faces. The men immediately dropped to their knees upon seeing him.
“Mr… Mr. Knox, we didn’t mean to abduct Miss Skylar three days ago. She gave us a lot of money to put on an act!“]]
They rambled on, but Knox only heard a few key words.
Three days ago.
Miss Skylar.
Act.
It was as if someone had struck him on the head–something exploded in his mind.[]
“Reagan, I was wrong!.I misjudged you! It wasn’t your fault!”
“You were framed, and I drove you to your death!“]
Knox covered his face, tears streaming down. He remembered how had knelt before him, begging for mercy, but he hadn’t even listened before ordering his bodyguards to attack me. 0
We had known each other since we were young, for over ten years. He knew me better than anyone, yet for Skylar’s sake, he had unhesitatingly plunged the sharpest knife into my heart.
The truth pierced Knox to his core, completely shattering him.
He staggered a few steps, violently coughed up blood, and collapsed unconscious.
