Chapter 7%
A flicker of sarcasm flashed in Lucas’s eyes as he replied smoothly.
“Mr. Fletcher, the family curse started when our ancestor desecrated Princess Ariana’s tomb over a century ago. The only way to delay its effects is for Julian to kneel before her remains for one full night and seek forgiveness.”}
“It won’t break the curse entirely, but it might keep him alive long enough for you to find another woman with the rare genetic trait.“% Maddie immediately nodded.}
“Where are Princess Ariana’s remains? We’ll go right now!“}]
Donald hesitated.
“They were transferred to the Westbridge Historical Museum years ago… but forcing Julian to kneel like that…“%
Julian clenched his jaw.
“You want me to kneel in front of some corpse all night and beg for forgiveness? That’s insane. Lucas made this up just to humiliate me. I’m not falling for it!“}
Maddie grabbed his hand.”
“Julian, please. We don’t have any other choice. We have to try.“}]
Lucas glanced at his watch.
“If we wait any longer, it might be too late. Mr. Fletcher, if you have any connections, you’d better use them now.“%
“I’ve told you what to do. Whether you believe it or not is up to you.“!!
With that, he placed his arm around my shoulder and guided me out.”
Just as we reached the front door, Julian’s angry voice echoed behind us.
“Evelyn, you’re heartless. You knew this would kill me and you still married someone else! How dare you!“>
I turned slowly and met his gaze.
“Julian Fletcher, not half as heartless as the man who burned me alive with his own hands.”
His body stiffened.}
At the wedding, he’d only thought I was different. He never imagined I was reborn too.
“So… you remembered. You did all this to get back at me.”
I said nothing more. Lucas and I walked away.
Just as we were about to get into the car, we ran into my adoptive parents rushing up in a frenzy.
Before I could react, my mother slapped me across the face.
“Evelyn, you humiliated us at the wedding and now you’re at the Fletchers stealing your sister’s fiancé? Have you lost your mind?”
“We never should’ve taken you back. You’ve never acted like a proper daughter. You’ve done nothing but disgrace us. You’ll never measure up to Vivian.“}
Lucas immediately checked my face, then turned to argue back, but I stopped him.”
I faced them coldly.
“You were the ones who forced me into the Fletcher engagement. Then you let Vivian marry in my place–and blamed me for it.”
“In the two years since I came back, have you ever treated me like your daughter?”
“Vivian’s framed me over and over and you never even questioned it. If you’d investigated once–just once–you would’ve seen her true
face.”
“Since you only want Vivian as your daughter, fine. Let’s cut all ties.”
My mother raised her hand to hit me again, but this time, I dodged it.
My father caught her and glared at me.}
“Evelyn Moore, remember this. From now on, you’re dead to us.”
Without another word, I got into the car with Lucas.
He pulled me into his arms gently.
“Evelyn, if you want to cry, it’s okay. You still have me.”
I laughed through my tears.!!
‘I’m not sad because of them. I’m happy. I’m finally free of the Moore Family.“&
Meanwhile, the Fletchers took Julian and Vivian to the museum.
