Chapter 6%
I stood on the rooftop helipad of the Silver Moon Consortium’s 108–story headquarters, looking down at the financial district below. The glittering city lights spread out like a galaxy of stars–each one representing millions, even billions, in capital flow.
Two men in black suits approached the moment they saw me, their posture shifting with respect and reverence.
“Miss Schultz, you’ve finally returned,” one of them said, his voice sincere with awe
I gave a small nod, savoring the feeling I hadn’t experienced in so long–being seen, being respected. Here, no one dared belittle me because of my disheveled appearance. No one believed Maya’s pitiful performances and trampled me underfoot. Not anymore.
The Silver Moon Consortium’s complex was even grander than I remembered. It wasn’t just a corporate headquarters–it was a global empire controlling the lifeblood of world finance.
- e. My grandmother was already waiting. When she saw me, her
The butler led me through the marble halls to the top–floor executive suite. eyes welled up with tears instantly.
“My child,” she whispered, opening her arms and pulling me into a warm embrace
Her lavender scent, just like my mother’s, brought back a wave of memories.
“Let me see you,” she said gently, brushing my cheek. When her eyes fell on the bruises and scars on my face, they darkened with fury. “Who dared to do this to the heir of the Silver Moon family?”
Before I could answer, my grandfather emerged from his study. Tall and imposing, his presence alone could silence a room. Though werewolves didn’t age visibly, he had allowed his hair to gray, a deliberate mark of wisdom and authority
He stopped cold at the sight of me.
“What happened?” he asked, his low voice threaded with danger
I removed my hat and revealed my shaved head. My grandmother gasped, hand flying to her mouth as tears streamed down her face.
“Tell me who did this,” my grandfather said, stepping forward to gently touch my scalp. “Who dares to harm the bloodline of Silver Moon?!
I took a deep breath and told them everything
“Enough,” he said, cutting me off. He walked to the massive floor–to–ceiling window, overlooking the glittering city. “From this moment on. you are the sole heir to the Silver Moon Consortium. And those who hurt you and your mother will pay dearly.””
Grandma held me tightly. “You’ve suffered so much, child. But you’re home now. No one will hurt you again.”
Tears slipped down my cheeks, gliding over wounds still healing–but I didn’t feel the pain, Because here, I didn’t have to pretend. I didn’t have to endure, and I didn’t have to beg
They hired the world’s top medical team and nutritionists. My recovery was swift, I stared at my reflection in the mirror–my entire face was restored to the original state, and my eyes were sharp and clear
Inhaling sharply, I tumed to my grandfather. “I want revenge.”
He shook his head and walked to his desk, where an enormous digital screen displayed global stock markets and corporate data.
“Revenge isn’t a sprint, child. It only means something when you’ve grown powerful enough to crush your enemies beneath your feet.”!
“But-“B
“Listen to your grandfather,” my grandmother said, patting my shoulder. “We’ll help you accomplish whatever you set your mind to–and give you more than you ever imagined.”
I looked at the only family I had left in this world. Of course, they wouldn’t hurt me. They w
would only protect me.
Just then, the secretary hurried in. “Chairman, there’s someone downstairs asking to see Miss Schultz.
“Who?” Grandfather frowned.
“Logan. He says he’s her former fiancé.”
My expression turned to ice. “Send him up.“8
Minutes later, Logan walked into the office looking haggard–clothes wrinkled, cheeks sunken, In this palace of luxury, he looked like a beggar.
His eyes scanned
d the room nervously. When they landed on me, a flash of shack crossed his face.
“Amalia, you… you look good,” he said, stepping forward, attempting to embrace me like before.
I stepped back, avoiding his touch.!!
At that instant, his face crumpled. “Amalia, how could you do that to Maya? Her hair is nearly gone, and she cries every day.”
“So?” I scoffed.
“You need to apologize. And come home with me. The wedding is ready–we’re just waiting for you.” His tone was very firm, as if everything was still the same as before.
“Not going to happen. I stared him down. Tve already rejected you
“Amalia, stop being childish. We’re mates–you can’t escape that. You’ll never truly be free of me.” As he spoke, he tried to exert his Alpha dominance.
But his aura had no effect on me, because this was the Silver Moon family, he was far too weak.
“Logan,” my grandfather said, voice like thunder. The massive screen now displays detailed information about Logan’s company. “You’re threatening my heir under my roof?‘
4.42 AM
Logan turned toward him and instantly paled as the weight of my grandfather’s Alpha aura crashed down on him. On the screen, his company’s ownership, debt, and cash flow were all laid bare.
“Moran Technologies,” my grandfather said mildly. “Registered capital: 50 million. Estimated value: 3.2 billion. Interesting–fifteen percent of your shares are held by an overseas fund… which, as it happens, is a Silver Moon subsidiary”
Logan’s face was drained of color. Little did he know, the Silver Moon Consortium had already woven its shadow into the very foundation of his company’s ownership.
“Which means” my grandfather continued, “we could erase your company from the stock market anytime we choose.”
Despite his shock, Logan tried to remain polite. “Respected Alpha, I only want to bring back my mate.“%
Grandma rose from her seat, her own power sweeping through the room. “Your mate? You hit my granddaughter over another woman. You don’t deserve a mate.”
“That–that was all a misunderstanding… Logan was starting to panic, sweat gathering on his forehead.
I stared at his flustered expression, my heart brimming with bitter irony. Was this really the man I once chased so humbly? For the first time, just looking at his face made my stomach turn with disgust
“Logan,” I said calmly, stepping forward, voice steady and emotionless. “I, Amalia, Schultz reject you as my fated mate. I sever all ties with you.“E
“You can’t=”
“Accept her rejection, my grandfather said coldly. “Or lose everything.”
Logan finally understood that he had no choice
“… I accept your rejection,” he muttered, full of bittemess
In that instant, I felt the mate bond shatter. The restraint that had always lingered deep within me vanished completely, replaced by an overwhelming sense of ease and freedom.
Logan clutched his chest, his face tuming even paler. The severing of our mate bond hit him harder than it did me–because my heart had already shattered for him a thousand times over
“Now leave our building,” my grandfather ordered. If you dare show your face again, it won’t just be about stock prices crashing. Remember–behind Amalia stands the Silver Moon Consortium. And that’s a power you can never match”
Logan gave me one last look, filled with rage and something unreadable. But it didn’t matter anymore.
“It’s over, child” my grandmother said, gently squeezing my hand. “You’re truly free now
I nodded.
Yes–I was free.”
