Chapter 12%
“Have you calmed down a bit?” Portia asked gently as she handed me a warm glass of milk, letting me stay in her apartment for a while I
I nodded, my heart still racing but grateful for her kindness
Noticing my hesitation, Portia continued, “I’m Portia from the Pack Alliance Investigation Bureau. My superior assigned me to investigate a series of interpack activities that have raised serious concerns. Specifically, we’re examining suspicious alliances, illegal dealings, and territorial violations linked to several key figures–your pack being one of them.”
Her eyes sparkled with intensity as she spoke, drawing me in. “There’s a growing network of covert operations, financial fraud, and power plays beneath the surface, involving not just packs but also external contractors. We suspect ties to Deltal Construction Point and other illicit dealings. My role is to expose these networks and bring those responsible to justice.”
The room fell into an uneasy silence after Portia’s introduction. It was no wonder she excelled in investigative work, even as a reporter, I had often wondered where she found the effectiveness and authority that made people confess so easily.
“Ralph has been under our investigation for quite some time,” Portia said, her tone steady and deliberate. “His dealings, his connections–they run deeper than you think, Lyka. But we need the missing pieces to bring him down for good.”
“Goddess, what have I gotten myself into?” I set the glass of warm milk on the coffee table and wiped my face, feeling the weight of my decisions crashing down on me.
“Shady dealings, for sure,” Portia replied with a surprisingly carefree attitude. “Our movements are limited since I’m here undercover. We’ve only managed to dig up so much about him. I could really use your help, SigmaLeaks.”
I let out a deep breath, finally admitting the truth I had hidden for so long. “Yeah, I’m SigmaLeaks, alright.”
Portia’s expression turned serious, her eyes narrowing with intent. “To be honest, I need protection,” I said, my voice steady. “If I go through with this, I want the Investigation Bureau’s guarantee. Once Ralph’s empire collapses, it won’t just be him I’ll be running from; the whole pack will turn on me.”
She nodded, fully grasping the gravity of the situation. “I can arrange that. Your confession elevates this from an internal pack issue to a high–profile case for the Bureau.
“But in return, I need everything you have on Ralph–every piece of intel, every file. If we’re going to take him down, we need to expose the full extent of his crimes.”
I stared at Portia for a long moment, weighing my options, but deep down, I knew I had no choice. This was my final card to play, my last act as SigmaLeaks.
“Alright, 1 finally agreed, a mixture of fear and a strange sense of anticipation coursing through me. “You’ll have everything about Ralph. But once this is over, I’m done.”
Portia nodded, sealing the deal. “Then we both get what we want. Ralph falls, and you disappear.””
That night, I found myself sitting in front of my laptop, the screen’s glow casting flickering shadows across my face. My fingers hovered over the keys as I prepared my final post as SigmaLeaks. The files were all set–irrefutable evidence that would dismantle Ralph’s carefully constructed empire, exposing his fraudulent dealings, his exploitation, the blood on his
hands.
This post would mark the endgame. Once I hit publish, there would be no turning back, no more secrets. I would finally be free from this double life, but the price of that freedom loomed over me like a sharpened blade.
As I began to type, the tension in the room became almost unbearable, the weight of everything I had fought for pressing down on my shoulders. I felt fear–fear of what would follow, fear of Ralph’s inevitable reaction when he discovered the truth. But mingling with that fear was something else: anticipation. This was the moment I had been waiting for, the moment when everything would come crashing down.”
With a deep breath, I clicked the button to post on Four Leaves. The screen flashed, confirming my submission. It was done. The final chapter of SigmaLeaks was now out in the world.”
All I could do was wait for the fallout, knowing that once the storm hit, there would be no turning back.
