he baby was rushed to the ER.Nathan’s gaze was as cold as ice,then he turned around slowly,looked at me and said with a heavy voice, “Laurissa,you’ve gone too far.An allergy is not a small thing.Do you really want the child to die before you’re satisfied?”
I felt chilled to the bone.I didn’t even have the strength to explain.I gave him the divorce agreement I had already composed for a long time. My eyes were calm and devoid of any emotions.“Let’s get a divorce.If we don’t,anything might happen.”
He froze,then his whole body looked like it was exploding.“What the hell do you mean? How fa are you trying to push me?!”
I didn’t respond.I just insisted on giving the papers to him again.
“Fine! You’re so mean!” He gritted his teeth, grabbed the agreement and almost tore the paper. Then,in the“signature“column,he wrote his name.
“I must’ve been blind to marry someone so heartless, “he grumbled.
I returned home with the divorce agreement,but the door was closed, so I rang the doorbell. When the door opened,I saw the nanny’s pale face.I furrowed my brows and asked,” What happened?*
She opened her mouth,but words failed her. She glanced nervously toward the yard.
Following her gaze,l saw my suitcase,clothes and even the necklace box I inherited from my mother, which I had prepacked, were all dumped in the pouring rain.
The sound of a car came from the door and the familiar Maybach pulled up at the door. As soon as the door opened, the male protagonist stepped out of the car with an umbrella,holding Alicia
in his arms.
My fingertips,almost frozen by the rain,shook.
“What are you doing back?“Nathan’s tone was cold.“Didn’t you tell me you wanted a divorce?”
My teeth gnashed.“Why did you throw my things out?”
Nathan answered coldly, “You were the one who said you wanted a divorce.I just helped you pack up your things.”
His words dripped with mockery.“Since you’re getting a divorce,you’re nothing now.”
I couldn’t bear to hear any longer,so I turned around to leave.
“Laurissa Smith!“Seeing that I refused to bend down,Nathan was a bit panicked.“Don’t you dare walk away!”
I stayed silent and kept walking into the pouring rain. Never once,I look back.
That night,I met up with my lawyer friend to discuss the final steps of the divorce. She popped open a bottle of red wine and toasted,” To your new life!”
I gave a wry smile as I gulped down half a glass of wine.It burnt all the way down my throat.Soon,my head started spinning and my consciousness faded.
This alarmed my friend. You don’t look good. Are you allergic to alcohol?I’m calling nine one one for you!”
I propped myself up on the edge of the table and shook my head. However,when I was about to

get up,a man’s hand suddenly held me steady.
Don’t be afraid, I’ll send you to rest,” the man said in a warm voice,but he was incredibly strong and he dragged me directly into the private room.

The man laughed softly,” Nathan robbed me of a project,so I’ll try what his woman likes.”
I tried to get my phone,but he kicked it away.
“Don’t bother.” He smiled evilly.“Nathan is having fun with his new love right now.”
I lost all hope and my heart hurt so bad. Though I wanted to get my medicine,I could not do it because I was restrained.
At that moment,the private room door burst open with a kick.
“Release her!“A cold,razor–sharp voice rang out.

Chapter 5
Suddenly,I was tugged into someone’s embrace.
Amidst the confusion,I heard something heavy falling to the ground and a man wailing.
I pushed my eyes open and saw who it was.It was Collins Lockhart.
“In the south,there is Nathan,in the north,there is Collins. “He was an existence alongside Nathan and known for his wicked tongue and devil–may–care attitude.
He wrapped his arms around me,his slender fingers took out the medicine in my pocket and pressed it into my mouth playfully. His peach blossom eyes flashed with mischief.
“Beauty,are you afraid?” he asked.
My consciousness felt like it was sinking into a swamp. All the sounds around me were fading,except for that blurred figure in front of me,he was the only one who remained clear.
I didn’t know where I got the strength,but I reached out and grabbed the hem of his shirt with all my might.
My tongue had long gone numb and I couldn’t utter a single word,with only one thought in my mind.I must tell him to get me out of this hell.
Collins looked down at me and it seemed he was caught off guard for a moment. Then he let out a low chuckle,his voice hoarse,“Alright, I’ll take it as you being scared.”
He didn’t hesitate and directly picked me up in a horizontal hug,his embrace unexpectedly steady and strong.
My head rested against his chest and I caught a faint scent of soap and fir tree. Strangely,it made me feel like a drowning person who had finally grasped a piece of driftwood.
As we walked out of the private room,he soothed me in a voice as soft as if he were calming a frightened child:“Don’t be afraid. I’ve got your back tonight.”
When I opened my eyes again,dawn had already broken. The curtains swayed lightly in the breeze and the morning light filled the room.
For a moment,I was disoriented. The unfamiliar room was too quiet to be real.
I was about to get up,but something pressed down on a corner of the quilt. When I lowered my eyes,I actually saw Collins sleeping on the bed and one of his hands was on the edge of the bed.His expression was so relaxed that his usual defiance was nowhere to be seen.
I had no idea how long he had been keeping me company.
Everyone said,“In the south,there’s Nathan.In the north,there’s Collins. “If Nathan was the golder boy praised by all since childhood, then Collins was a rebellious boy who gave people a headache.
When Nathan dealt with things,though he did it with coldness,people could still reason with him.However,with Collins,you would never know what his next thought was. He might smile at you one second and kick you out of a business deal the next.
Once, when I stood beside Nathan,I saw him grin at a developer who knelt before him while begging him to invest.However,although Collins said it gently,the tone was cruel, “I told you. You’re
of no use to me.”
