Chapter 25
“I,I don’t know…” Alicia stammered,her panicked gaze shooting toward Nathan.“Mr.Campbell,yo have to believe me.I really didn’t!He was already crying when I held him. Maybe he bumped into something,maybe he was just being naughty…”
Nathan was long frozen in place,his brows tightly furrowed,his expression dark and terrifying. He did not say anything for two seconds before he suddenly stormed forward and yanked the child
from Alicia’s arms.
“Mr.Campbell!“Alicia shrieked.
Nathan did not pay her any attention. His movements were almost rough when he hastily peeled layers of clothing off the baby in his arms.
“Hiss….“He sucked in a sharp breath,his chest heaving violently.
On the tender little body,bruises and purples were intertwined and densely packed,and in some places,blood even oozed out,as if it had been pinched hard for a long time.
These were from a bump or from being“naughty“. This came from being abused.
The child was still crying.It was choking to the point of near–asphyxiation and drops of tears that fell onto the back of Nathan’s hand burned his fingertips.
In the next second,Nathan spun around and rushed toward the pediatric department,his voice trembling.”Get a doctor….now!Give it a full body checkup!”
After only a couple of steps,he abruptly stopped and turned back to look at me,a flash of hesitation and pain flickering in his eyes.
He was afraid I’d leave and never come back. However,the child in his arms,his son,was covered
in bruises.
I met his gaze,took a slow breath and said calmly,” The child is innocent. Go ahead,I won’t go.However,don’t forget,we have a divorce to go through. When you’re done with it,come find me outside the hospital.”
My voice was steady and cold.
Nathan’s lips moved like he wanted to say something,but in the end, he didn’t say anything just gritting his teeth,turned and ran toward the emergency clinic with the baby in his arms.
The light from the hospital corridor stretched his back long and heavy,his steps hurried and panicked.
Meanwhile,Alicia collapsed on the floor,her face pale as her eyes glued to Nathan’s back.
The bodyguards rushed over to restrain her,but she thrashed wildly.
“Let go of me!Let go!He’s my son!! gave birth to him!You have no right to take him from me!”
She struggled desperately,but ultimately, she was pinned to the floor. Her cries were shrill and incoherent,spewing nonsense.
Several nurses had called security and the bodyguards were holding her down,shielding her from moving and bumping into the crowd.
About an hour later, Nathan came out of the pediatric emergency room with the baby in his

arms,the doctor following behind,looking grave.
“There are multiple bruises and red indentations on some of the ribs.It is suspected to be the result of persistent external pressure and the child is extremely upset,suspected to be psychologically traumatized. We recommend hospitalization for observation and a CT scan first.”
Nathan nodded,his voice hoarse like sandpaper.“Get him a room.”
As the doctor walked off to arrange it,Nathan lowered his head to look at the boy who had finally cried himself to sleep in his arms. His eyes were red–rimmed and lifeless.
He had always been the high and mighty Nathan,the spirited heir to the Campbell Family.
However,he was like a beast that had been completely stripped of its bones,wretched and broken.
He turned back to Alicia,who was being held down on the ground and walked toward her. Each step he took was like walking on the edge of a knife.
When Alicia saw Nathan,she struggled more fiercely, “Mr.Campbell,believe me!l really didn’t hur him! You know,I love him the most. I just wanted him to cry so you would feel sorry for me!l didn’t mean to,I didn’t really want to hurt him,I’m his mom!”
Nathan stood towering before her in silence. He looked at her for a long time and suddenly….
Smack!
Without hesitation,he slapped her across the face.
