Chapter 10
From hope to despair.
Evelyn’s heart instantly plummeted to the bottom.
In an instant, her face turned paler, filled with lifelessness.
Big drops of tears flowed down.
The surrounding nurses couldn’t bear it in their hearts, their eyes filled with sympathy. “What should we do, doctor?”
The doctor sighed deeply and said, “Take them to the operating room, I’ll take care of everything.”
The cold operating table almost froze Evelyn’s blood.
The bone-chilling cold enveloped her entire body, and she wanted to hold herself, but she was already unable to move,
only able to let the temperature slowly dissipate.
Life slipped away little by little, and consciousness grew increasingly hazy.
The memories of two lifetimes intertwined and resurfaced, as if she had returned to the first time she met Martin.
In her senior year of high school, she was almost forced by her mother to get married. Martin was like a beam of light that
shone into her oppressive world.
He said, “In the future, I will support you, and your life should be in your own hands.”
He used to be her light.
But he himself extinguished this light.
Vaguely, Evelyn seemed to hear a child’s cry, “Mom… Mom…”
Tears kept flowing from the corner of Evelyn’s eyes.
She wanted to live.
She had just started a new life, her child had not been born yet, and she wanted to take control of her own life.
She was unwilling to die…
Oh God, save us…
The cracked lips silently whispered prayers, while her consciousness slowly sank into the endless abyss.

“Attention, passengers heading to Coralia, your flight is about to depart. Please turn off all electronic devices…”
Martin hung up the phone on Evelyn.
Isabel apologized, “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have missed Ms. Gomez’s call…”

Martin frowned deeply, feeling that he had been frowning more and more frequently lately. He then sighed and said, “I’ll
pay attention next time.”
The clouds were beautiful, but there was no heart to appreciate them.
That phone call made Martin inexplicably uneasy.
Let’s get in touch after getting off the plane.
Thinking, he closed his eyes with a hint of weariness.
Getting off the plane, a bunch of things were waiting to be arranged. Isabel was not very skilled, so she had to do everything herself.
As I was busy, I forgot to return the call.
At the business meeting the next day.
The lights were dazzling, and the banquet hall was decorated with luxury and delicacy.
Isabel felt right at home in her luxurious haute couture attire.
Until we started discussing the project, we stumbled over business terms.
Martin immediately took over the conversation.
The head of cooperation shook his head and said, “Mr. Wilson, this secretary is far from satisfactory. Where is Ms.
Gomez?”
Martin pursed his lips and went through it in a perfunctory manner.
Isabel’s eyes dimmed, and she bit her lip as she said, “I will try my best.”
Martin took a sip of champagne and comforted, “You have just taken office, take it slow.”
That being said, my thoughts couldn’t help but wander, wishing Evelyn was here.
With her around, there was nothing to worry about.
After the banquet.
Martin had been drinking a lot of alcohol and felt dizzy. He was quite thirsty and couldn’t help but mutter, “Evelyn, water.”
The person supporting him paused for a moment and placed him on the bed.
Isabel looked at the drunken man in front of her, bit her lip hard, and her eyes were filled with jealousy and resentment.
Evelyn! It’s her again, she just won’t go away!
She tentatively called out Martin twice, but seeing no response from him, she slowly reached out and unbuttoned Martin’s jacket, then undressed herself and lay in bed.
Opening the camera, after two soft “click” sounds, it was ready to send.

A hand stretched out from behind and snatched the phone away.
Isabel turned around in shock and saw Martin looking at her phone with a gloomy expression.
The phone displayed that the recipient of the message was Evelyn.
Martin asked with a dark expression on his face, “What happened?”
Isabel trembled all over and gritted her teeth, “It was just as you saw.”
The woman’s confession, like a thunderbolt, shattered Martin’s chaotic thoughts.
His heart sank, and he exclaimed in disbelief, “What else have you done?”
Seeing Isabel’s silence, he immediately opened his phone and keenly spotted the name of the person who reported Evelyn
in the ‘Forest Hotel’ project.
Opening the chat history, he saw the blatant evidence of their conspiracy.
The man was responsible for reporting, and Isabel was responsible for giving money.
Like a bolt of lightning, Martin was completely sober.
He coldly questioned, “Was it also you who did the Star Group’s matter before? Did you intentionally target her in
everything?”
Tears welled up in Isabel’s eyes as she grabbed his hand. “Yes, I was just three months late, why should I let you go to
her!”
In Martin’s eyes, the tearful face of the woman gradually merged with Evelyn’s sad yet determined face.
Suddenly, the sadness and grievances that Evelyn had ignored became vivid.
The painful and urgent questioning echoed, “Do you believe me or not?” “I was like a mistress,” lingering in my ears.
Martin jerked Isabel’s hand away as if he had been electrocuted.
Until this moment, he suddenly woke up and realized that he had hurt Evelyn deeply.
He said coldly, “Isabel, you were fired.”
After saying that, he turned around and left directly.
His fist clenched tightly, and he became more and more anxious as he walked.
He took out his phone and dialed Evelyn’s number directly.
I tried dialing several times, but I couldn’t get through.
Martin had been extremely restless, but he didn’t even understand what he was afraid of…
Over and over again.

Finally, the phone was answered.
The voice on the other end, however, was unfamiliar, “Hello, this is Mount West Hospital. Are you Mr. Gomez? I’m sorry to inform you that your wife has passed away due to excessive bleeding during surgery, despite our efforts to save her.”
