Chapter 5

Everyone was shocked.

Evelyn covered her face, her mind went blank, and she only felt a burning sensation on her face.

“How could you be so irresponsible! You actually managed to misspell the name of our company. Do you know how much of a joke we became once the document was released?”

Martin stepped forward and blocked Evelyn, reassuringly saying, “Ms. Howard, calm down, this matter will be explained to

you…”

After much effort, these people were finally persuaded to leave.

Evelyn sat in the president’s office, silent.

After a while, Martin finally opened the door and walked in.

“Are you okay?”

Evelyn did not look up as footsteps approached her.

The next moment, an ice pack appeared in front of her. She pursed her lips and took it, gently applying it to her face,

feeling the burning sensation on her face lessen a bit.

Evelyn took a deep breath and looked up, asking, “What exactly happened?”

Martin handed over the project proposal and pressed his forehead, saying, “Take a look yourself.”

After flipping through the project proposal, Evelyn’s face immediately darkened as she noticed that the name of the

collaborating company had been misspelled by one letter.

Martin’s voice was cold, “This part was Jenny’s responsibility, and she made such a big mess of it, resulting in deductions

in this quarter’s performance…”

Without waiting for him to finish, Evelyn looked up from the report and urgently interrupted, “Who told you? Isabel?”

“Jenny could not have made such a basic mistake. I had checked this part before handing it over to Isabel, and there were

no errors.”

Martin glanced at her and said lightly, “She was your friend, don’t favor her.”

Evelyn chuckled, “Who is favoring whom after all? You let Isabel come in and confront me.’

Martin said in a low voice, “Evelyn, enough is enough. Business is business, and personal is personal.”

Evelyn clenched her hand and stood up abruptly, staring intensely into Martin’s eyes. “Martin, be honest with yourself, were you really keeping your personal and professional lives separate? Isabel is just trying to shift the blame, can’t you

see that?”

Martin began to grow impatient, “I know what kind of person Isabel is, she wouldn’t do something like this.”

In an instant, Evelyn felt as if her heart had been pierced.

Pain engulfed her entire body, gradually invading like a burning fire, leaving her with nowhere to escape.

She tightly clenched her hand, her nails sinking into the flesh, the pain making her alert.

A voice squeezed out from the throat, “Did you believe her no matter what she did?”

Martin looked at her suddenly reddened eyes and inexplicably felt annoyed.

After a long while, he pressed his brow and lowered his voice, “This is just a small matter, you don’t need to argue about

it.”

Evelyn couldn’t help but chuckle when she saw the man in front of her, who was unconsciously defending Isabel.

There was more bitterness that couldn’t be dispelled in the laughter.

Small matter?

Her face was still in pain, the slap marks Isabel received were still clearly visible on her face, couldn’t he see them?

Evelyn felt her whole body enveloped in weakness.

She was tired and didn’t want to argue with him about another woman anymore.

Finally, Evelyn gave Martin a deep look and slammed the door without any nostalgia.

Just as I stepped out, I bumped into Isabel.

She smiled for a moment, unaffected at all, and warmly greeted, “Ms. Gomez.”

But Evelyn had already seen the meanness beneath her smile and ignored her cold departure.

Evening.

Martin finished his work and didn’t get home until 11 o’clock.

As soon as the door was opened, Evelyn was seen sitting at the dining table, and to my surprise, the table was filled with

his favorite dishes.

He was startled, “What is this?”

“Back already? Please have a seat,” Evelyn said calmly.

Martin took big steps forward and, with the help of the light, discovered something different.

Evelyn painted her delicate makeup and wore brand new clothes, a scene that he only remembered happening on their

wedding night…

Martin hesitated and furrowed his brow as he sat down, “What are you doing?”

Evelyn said, “Let’s eat.”

Martin, however, did not pick up his fork, “I have already eaten…”

Halfway through the conversation, Evelyn interrupted abruptly, “No, you had to eat.”

Martin’s heart sank inexplicably, and he looked at her with deep and profound eyes.

Evelyn smiled and a surge of unknown emotions and relief welled up in her eyes.

“Martin, after we finished this farewell dinner, let’s get divorced.”
