Sophia was even wearing my clothes. When she saw me return, her eyes were full of defiance, as if she had already become the mistress of this house. “Sorry, Wendy. Tyler was worried because I drank too much yesterday, so he brought me here. Tyler is so gentle–he took care of me all night. I really envy you for having
such a wonderful husband.”
She might as well have written “Tyler loves me” across her face.
At this moment, my heart felt completely unmoved. “Since you like someone else’s husband so much, after Tyler and I divorce, you won’t need to feel envious
anymore.”
Tyler’s face turned frighteningly dark. He was practically in a rage. “You’re that eager to divorce me and be with that other man, aren’t you?! Let me tell you,
Wendy–you want a divorce? Absolutely impossible. Betraying me comes with a
price!”
He reached out to grab me, but I quickly stepped back toward the door. His injuries weren’t fully healed, making him look rather ridiculous.
I stared straight at Tyler, completely unafraid of his anger. “Isn’t this what you wanted? She’s dying, and you need to fulfill her wish. Now you won’t have to sneak around anymore. I’m setting you both free.”
After all, for Sophia’s sake, he didn’t even care about his own child. And divorce
was his idea to begin with.
I could see the excitement in Sophia’s eyes when I said this.
Tyler looked at me coldly. “Divorce? Keep dreaming!”
After years together, I knew his personality too well.
Since we couldn’t reach an agreement, I didn’t say anything more and walked directly into the bedroom to find my documents.
But everything that had been in the cabinet had vanished–including the keepsakes from my adoptive parents!
Tyler! I trembled with anger. “Tyler, did you take my things?!”
Tyler didn’t deny it. He approached step by step, his eyes filled with menace. “Wendy, if you dare to cheat, you should know the price. Not just your adoptive

parents‘ things, but you too…”
“As for that man, I’ll make him wish he were dead.”
He was actually using my adoptive parents‘ keepsakes to threaten me! I clenched my fists. “Tyler, you were the one who cheated first. You wanted the divorce. And you were the one who killed my baby!”
But Tyler just gave a cold laugh. “My parents want to see you soon. You know what to say, right? I’ll settle the score with your lover later!”
Behind him, Sophia glared at me venomously, as if she wanted to kill me.
I gritted my teeth and sent a message to Xavier. I had been too optimistic, thinking they wouldn’t be home when I came alone.
Now, to leave, I could only count on my brother. I just didn’t know if he could find me easily. I couldn’t help feeling worried and anxious.
And I cursed my own carelessness.
When the car pulled into the old family house,
Tyler’s parents seemed to have been waiting for us for a long time. Their expressions were equally unpleasant.
They had never liked me. If Tyler hadn’t threatened to leave the his family to marry me, they would never have agreed. Even after the wedding, they still treated me
poorly.
If we hadn’t moved out to live separately, who knows what methods they would
have devised to torment me.
As soon as I reached the living room, I heard Tyler’s mother give a cold snort. If Tyler hadn’t been present, she probably would have said even more vicious things. I walked over and found a place to sit without greeting anyone. If Tyler hadn’t forced me to come, I wouldn’t have shown up at all.
Seeing that I wasn’t hanging my head and apologizing as usual, Tyler’s mother angrily slammed the table and stood up, pointing at me and scolding, “What kind of attitude is this?! People from humble backgrounds really have no manners. Don’t think that because my son protects you, I wouldn’t dare discipline you! Your

husband was in trouble outside and you didn’t even think to tell the family, you useless thing!”
So Tyler hadn’t told them what had actually happened a few days ago.
And Tyler, unlike before, wasn’t speaking up for me. He leaned back on the sofa,
deliberately wanting me to be taught a lesson.
Seeing her son remain silent, Tyler’s mother’s attitude grew even more hostile.
“Kneel down right now! You couldn’t even protect one child–what use are you?” At this point, Tyler’s father finally spoke, though he didn’t defend me either. “That’s enough, say less. But Wendy, you failed to protect our family’s first grandson.
Since what’s happened has happened, just focus on recovering and get pregnant
again soon.”
The way he spoke, it seemed like my only purpose was to bear children. They
weren’t treating me as a person at all.
From beginning to end, not one person asked if I was okay. They seemed certain I would bow my head, agree to everything, and apologize.
They always thought I had married above my station into the family, and they had been bullying me for years.
This time, I didn’t want to endure it anymore. Perhaps it was the courage my newfound family gave me. I raised my head and spoke mockingly, “Really? Since there are plenty of women willing to bear your son’s children, why don’t we just get divorced? Make room quickly. If he fathers an illegitimate child now, wouldn’t that ruin your family reputation?”
This was the first time in all these years that I had spoken to them this way. It felt incredibly satisfying.
If only I had reconnected with my family earlier…
But I was already very content now, especially knowing they loved me.
For a moment, everyone was too shocked to speak. Tyler quickly grabbed me, his
face ugly with anger. Through gritted teeth, he threatened in my ear, “What
nonsense are you talking?! I haven’t even addressed your affair with that man, and

you dare to speak like this? Don’t you want your adoptive parents‘ things back?!” Tyler’s mother clutched her chest in anger. “Who do you think you are? Even if there’s a divorce, it would be my son leaving you. You’re just an orphan—do you think you can turn the world upside down? Today I’m going to teach you a proper
lesson!”
“Madam, you certainly have a big mouth.” Xavier’s voice came from the doorway.
He stood against the light, his eyes blazing with incredible fury.
