Chapter 6
When Summer arrived at the hospital, Grace’s mother wasn’t waiting in the psych department-
she was in OB–GYN.
Before Summer could say a word, the woman spun around, glaring.
“This is all your fault! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have been so upset I went to the wrong
department!”
Summer simply stared as she performed her act.
Then suddenly, the woman’s rant cut off.
From the maternity wing, a young couple walked out.
“Baby!”
Wilder’s face instantly changed. He let go of Grace’s hand in a flash.
Grace looked disappointed but quickly shifted into a look of fragile innocence.
And Grace’s mother?
The expression on her face was almost comical.
Watching the scene unfold, Summer’s suspicions were confirmed.
When Grace’s mother shredded the fake marriage license during a supposed psychotic break… it hadn’t been a coincidence. It had been planned.
Wilder forced a smile and walked straight toward Summer.
“I was just about to call you, babe! I’ve got great news–Grace is awake! But she wanted to surprise everyone, so she didn’t tell me until after she landed.”
He tried to wrap his arm around her waist, but Summer instinctively stepped back.
He froze.
Then she said flatly, “Well, congratulations.”
Grace’s eyes gleamed. She stepped forward and took Summer’s hand.
“Summer, I couldn’t have recovered so fast if it weren’t for Wilder taking such good care of me these past two years. And I heard you’ve been looking after my mom too? That’s just… so sweet of you!”

Her nails dug sharply into Summer’s skin.
Summer winced and yanked her hand away.
Grace staggered back dramatically, as if startled by the reaction. She made to fall–deliberately.
Wilder rushed forward and caught her by the waist, steadying her like she were glass.
Before he could say anything, Grace’s mother shrieked and stormed forward.
Smack!
The slap landed squarely on Summer’s cheek.
Wilder’s face went dark. He took a step forward-
But Grace clutched his arm tightly.
“W–Wilder… I… my belly hurts…”
He immediately panicked.
“Babe, she’s pregnant! Her husband isn’t here–let me get her to a doctor. You stay here and wait
for me, okay?”
Summer watched him walk away, frantic with worry for another woman.
Her own eyes burned, but the tears refused to fall.
Grace’s mother beamed with triumph.
“You really think you can steal my daughter’s man? You dirty little bitch! Filthy, worthless tramp!”
Summer’s cheek stung, hot and raw.
She stepped toward her.
The woman, used to Summer’s tolerance and silence, raised her hand again without hesitation.
But this time-
Summer caught her wrist mid–air, her grip like steel.
She yanked the arm back hard-
Crack.
The woman dropped to the floor, howling in pain.

“My arm! She broke my arm! Someone help! She’s trying to kill me!”
Summer didn’t even look back.
She walked straight out of the hospital.
She would never–ever–make the same mistake twice.
That night, Grace’s birthday party was held in the same villa where Wilder had once proposed to
Summer.
After Summer dislocated Grace’s mother’s arm, Wilder found her quickly.
“She’s sick, Summer! Why do you have to take everything so personally? Look, she’s still Grace’s mom. Couldn’t you let it go just this once–for the woman who nearly died saving my life?”
“God, can you stop being so damn stubborn for once? I’m the only one who puts up with you! No one else would!”
He rubbed his forehead in frustration.
“Tomorrow’s Grace’s birthday. Just… apologize. Say you’re sorry, and we’ll call it even.”
Summer hadn’t said a single word up until that point.
But hearing him say that–that she should apologize?
She let out a cold laugh.
“And what if I don’t?”
Wilder didn’t miss a beat.
“Then I’ll give her that painting–the one you asked me to track down.”
Summer froze.
“That painting… that’s the last one my father ever finished before he died. It was his final gift to me. Just because I won’t apologize, you’d give it to her?”
He sighed tiredly, pressing a hand to his temple.
“I said if you apologize, I won’t. Just be good, okay? Say sorry.”
When she didn’t respond, he took her silence as agreement.

The next day, he was busy personally decorating the venue.
Grace stood nearby, her baby bump clearly visible now.
Wilder’s men fawned over her with flattery and charm.
“Careful–don’t let Miss Reeves hear you guys call me ‘Mrs. Hunt,‘ or she’ll give you hell,” Grace said sweetly, playing the understanding woman to perfection.
