Chapter 6
Damien’s eyes were bloodshot as he bent down to pick up the severed hand–clutching their wedding ring, still smeared with fresh blood.
“She never took this off…” he murmured, his voice barely audible.
His breath caught in his throat, refusing to believe the hand might belong to Jasmine.
“Someone–get over here!”
He roared the command, panic rising in his chest.
“Where is my wife?!”
Vivian finally caught up, wrapping her arms around his in a sickly–sweet cling.
“Damien, are you looking for me? Why didn’t you answer when I called you just now?”
He shoved her off in disgust, turning to the guards with fury.
“I said where is my wife?!”
Everyone kept their heads down. No one dared speak.
Vivian tried to ease the tension with a forced giggle.
“Why so worked up, Damien? I’m right here. I told the boys to go enjoy the drinks and food–you said today was my birthday. I’m supposed to be the most important person today, right?”
Smack!
Damien struck her across the face without hesitation.
Vivian froze, her eyes wide with disbelief. “You hit me?”
“You don’t want to partner with the Monroes anymore?” she shrieked.
Damien sneered, venom dripping from his voice.
“If it weren’t for that piece of land your family owns, do you think I’d touch trash like you?”
“You’re just a bastard. Did you really think you’d become Mrs. Lancaster?”
Vivian’s composure cracked completely.

She hadn’t heard the word bastard in so long–not since Jasmine and her mother were thrown out of the Monroe family home.
Her face turned red. “I’m not a bastard! My mother is Mrs. Monroe now! I’m the heiress!”
Damien couldn’t be bothered to respond.
Instead, he turned back to his guards, voice thunderous.
“And you! You idiots lost a living, breathing woman?! What the hell am I paying you for?”
“I’m your boss–not this pathetic whore!”
Then he barked at the butler, “Check the security footage. I want to know where Jasmine is. Now.”
Moments later, the butler returned, shaking like a leaf.
“S–Sir, the surveillance system’s been tampered with. All footage… gone.”
“What?!”
Damien lunged forward and grabbed him by the collar.
“Useless trash!”
A new kind of fear began to coil in Damien’s chest.
He had just wanted to play along with Vivian for a few more days.
Just until he secured the Monroe land.
He never meant to actually let Vivian become Mrs. Lancaster.
As for her pregnancy–that had only been a move against her cunning old man.
Letting a bastard girl carry his child?
Once the deal was signed, he was going to surprise Jasmine with the wedding she’d always dreamed
- of.
She’d forgive him.
She always did.
He refused to think about how he’d treated her these past few days.

Refused to acknowledge the damage done.
He turned sharply on his heel.
“To the hospital.”
Vivian chased after him, shrieking.
“You heartless bastard! Damien, stop right there!”
Her screams drew attention.
Guests peered out from the ballroom, curious.
Damien, already in the car, scowled.
To the butler, he snapped, “Throw her out. I don’t want to see her face again.”
“And restore my wife’s room. Exactly how it was. I’m bringing her home.”
The butler hesitated, bewildered. Moments ago, Damien had been the one ordering Jasmine chained, beaten, humiliated.
Now he was demanding her return with urgency and remorse.
Still, he didn’t dare question it aloud.
“Yes, sir,” he said.
And just like that, under the eyes of hundreds of guests, Vivian was dragged out by security like discarded garbage.
