Jim took the paper with shaky hands, his eyes locking on the words “fourth week of pregnancy.” Before he could focus more, Petra snatched
the paper away.
“Son, Hayley’s pregnant! Is it yours?”
Petra was still reeling from the Sadie mess, worried she might be mistaking the real grandson again.
After Jim gave a nod, she grabbed his arm and practically bounced with
excitement.
“What are you waiting for? Go bring my grandson home!
“It’s all Sadie’s fault that I almost lost my real grandson. Bring Hayley back to me. I’m okay with your marriage!”
Jim was quiet for a moment, then nodded seriously, his eyes filled with resolve.
“Yes.
“I will bring Hayley and the baby back.”
He probably thinks I am so into him that I am totally losing my cool out of sight.

When Jim called, Daniel was helping me move.
Jim’s voice on the phone was full of that usual arrogance, but there was

also this barely hidden excitement.
“Hayley, stop hiding, I know you’re pregnant.
“Sadie’s already gone, so you should come back tonight.”
I had no clue how Jim found out about the pregnancy, but his sudden shift in attitude was pretty amusing.
Just a month ago, he said my presence made Sadie and his mother uncomfortable and wanted me out, and now he is telling me to come back.
“Oh, the baby?”
Before I could finish, Jim started humming nervously.
“I got rid of it a long time ago.
“Jim, I’ve made it clear that we’re completely done, so there’s no chance I’ll carry your child or stay connected to you.
“When I say it’s over, I mean it.”
Maybe my tone was too casual because Jim stayed quiet for a long time.
Daniel called right then, so I used the chance to hang up and block Jim.
Petra was anxiously waiting to hear from her son but saw him looking completely blank. She asked worriedly, “So? When will Hayley come back with my grandson?
“Sadie’s gone too, so just tell her to stop being so mad. It’s not good for my grandson if she keeps it up.”
After saying that, Petra clapped her hands and told the servants nearby, “Quickly move Hayley’s things back to the main bedroom, so my grandson

Only after the servants replied did Jim mutter, sounding completely lost.
“Hayley said she terminated the pregnancy and she dumped me.
“Mom, why is this happening? Do you think she’s lying just to mess with
me?
“Hayley is dumping me! I even heard another guy’s voice in the background! She cheated on me!”

Jim was furious, veins popping on his face, and all he could think about was that Hayley had betrayed him.
Petra was stunned but quickly shook her head, refusing to believe it.
“That’s impossible! You have her wrapped around your finger. She wouldn’t cheat on you nor harm your child!”
With his mom’s reassurance, Jim calmed down a bit. Thinking about all I had done for him made him feel somewhat relieved.
