Chapter 14
That night, Callum drank himself into oblivion at one of Mason’s private clubs.
By the time Mason hauled him back to the hotel, Callum was slumped over his shoulder, mumbling like a broken record.

“Evie, you’re so naughty.. why won’t you come back to me?”
“Evie, don’t leave me… I know I was wrong!”
“Evie, I missed you so damn much…”
“Evie, I love you, do you know that?”
“Evie… it’s always been you. Just you.”
He repeated her name again and again.
The next morning, Callum shot up in bed, stone–cold sober.
His entire body ached, and his eyes burned like hell.
He stumbled out of the bedroom, only to find Mason passed out on the couch.
He kicked his friend awake.
Mason groaned, squinting up at him. “Seriously? After the night I had carrying your crying drunk ass back here? You were wailing about Evie for hours. You know who had to clean that up? It’s Me!”
Callum ignored him. “Did you look into what I asked you about?”
Mason perked up immediately. “Now that, I’ve got.”
“See what your precious ‘white moonlight‘ has been up to.”
He tossed a thick folder onto the coffee table.
Callum flipped it open. Page by page, his face darkened–shifting from confusion to disbelief to outright rage.
With a vicious snap, he slammed the folder shut and hurled it across the room.
“She lied to me. All these years… she lied.”
His voice was pure ice.
“The kidnapping was fake. The imprisonment–fake. Those years abroad? She was living it up in Europe.”
Mason’s expression turned grim.
“Yeah. Word is, Estelle faked it all. The Moore family was collapsing financially, and they wanted her to marry some rich, disabled heir to save themselves. So she ran.”
“Ran, to Europe and started cozying up to every wealthy man she could find. And now that you’ve inherited the Rivers fortune, she smells money and comes crawling back.”
Callum clenched his jaw.
Mason continued, “Let’s be honest. Ten years ago, she ditched you because your family had lost everything. She didn’t want to be the girl who bailed on the golden boy, so she played the victim. That guilt’s been eating you alive ever since.”
Callum’s eyes burned with fury. He ground his heel into the folder like he wanted to erase it from existence.
“What about since she came back? Do we have anything on that?”
