Chapter 13
“Dad, Mom, don’t interfere in this matter,” Leander said, his tone brooking no argument.
Family law could punish him, but it couldn’t strip him of his rights–the Everhart family was basically his now.
His piercing gaze frightened his mother: “You… this is unfilial rebellion!”
“Today, for Elara’s sake, I’ll be unfilial once. Butler, escort them out!” he said firmly, no longer looking at his parents‘ panicked expressions.
He turned around, his eyes focusing solely on Marla.
The woman trembled as she backed away: “Leander, I can really explain those things. Please, don’t harm our child, okay? This is our child!”
Leander approached step by step, his tone utterly cold: “This isn’t our child. This is a child you stole. I told you–I’ll make you pay back everything to Elara.”
Finally, Marla was cornered against the wall. She had never seen Leander like this–his eyes no longer held their former indulgence, only icy hatred, as if he wanted to make her suffer a fate worse than death.
Marla’s tears flowed from fear: “Leander, I know you hate what I did, but it was all for our child!”
“If I hadn’t done those things, our child would have been born illegitimate. Could you bear for him to face criticism from birth?”
“Besides, Elara’s accident wasn’t because of me. I only made some small moves. Leander, please give me another chance? I’ll never do such things again. Give me a chance, and give our child a chance too, okay?”
She wept pitifully, both hands protectively covering her belly, appearing utterly vulnerable.
But Leander was sick of her act. She’d worn this same expression countless times when harming Elara, deceiving him. If not for those incidents, how could he have conceived the idea of sending Elara away? How could he have failed to see her off?
It was all because of Marla, and this child.
Leander’s gaze fell on her belly, the implication making Marla shake her head frantically.
“No… don’t do this, Leander, don’t…”
She might have realized what was coming, but it was too late.
Leander’s cold voice emerged: “Take her to the private hospital. I want to watch this child disappear with my own eyes.”
“No!” Marla’s voice was shrill as she instinctively tried to flee.
But how could a pregnant woman outrun bodyguards? She was caught within steps and dragged into the car.
As the driver headed toward increasingly remote areas, Marla tearfully begged Leander to spare the child, but the man remained unmoved.
At the private hospital, Marla’s fear reached its peak. The moment she was pulled from the car, she struggled desperately, falling to her knees at Leander’s feet.
“Leander, I’m begging you! You can do anything to me, but don’t hurt this child. This is our child–have you forgotten what we said before? We’re a family of three
“Leander, I know I was wrong. I won’t do such things again. I can apologize to Flara, kowtow at her grave, but please spare this child. I’m begging you!”
Please spare our chuld?”
Shu tagan koetowing, for a woman near full term, each bow nearly suffocated her, but for the child in her womb, she would do anything. As long as
had thus child, she wouldn’t lose!
She kowtowed repeatedly but Leander said nothing. The bodyguards restrained her again, dragging her into the hospital as Marla screamed and
cored her belly
She was placed on a hospital bed, restraints binding her hands and feet. The doctor looked at her large belly with a troubled expression.
“At Everhart, the child is so developed now, Forced abortion could kill them both. It would be better to let her give birth naturally.”
Leander remained unmoved: “I won’t allow her to hirth this child. Even if she dies today, it’s what she owes Elara. Proceed with the surgery.”
