Chapter 26

The months that followed were unlike anything I had ever experienced. Pregnancy was a journey I never expected to be on, especially after everything Scott and I had gone through. But as the weeks turned into months, I found myself adjusting to this new chapter of my lifea chapter filled with love, laughter, and a growing family

It all started with the moment we told my mom. Scott and I had invited her over to the house, insisting it was just a casual dinner. As we sat around the table, my nerves were getting the better of me. I kept fiddling with the edge of my napkin, sneaking glances at Scott, who just smiled reassuringly

Hannah, you’re acting strange,my mom said, raising an eyebrow. What’s going on?”

I bit my lip, glancing at Scott one last time before blurting out, I’m pregnant

My mom’s eyes widened, her fork clattering onto her plate. For a moment, she just stared at me, her expression unreadable

Then, a huge smile broke across her face, and she practically leapt out of her chair to hug me. Oh my goodness, Hannah! That’s amazing news!”

Scott stood up too, grinning as my mom pulled him into the hug. You’re going to be a wonderful father, Scott,” she said, tears glistening in her eyes

And you’ll be the best grandma,” Scott replied, his voice full of warmth

The rest of the evening was spent planning, laughing, and sharing stories. My mom dug out old photo albums, showing Scott embarrassing pictures of me as a kid. It was one of the happiest nights I’d had in a long time

As my belly grew, so did the excitement in our home. Scott was constantly fussing over me, making sure I was comfortable and wellfed

Do you need water?he’d ask as I sat on the couch with my feet propped up

I just had water,I’d reply with a laugh

Okay, but are you sure you don’t need a snack?”

Scott, I’m fine,” I’d say, shaking my head

But despite his overthetop worry, I found it endearing. He was so invested in this journey, and it made me fall even more in love with him

My mom was just as involved, if not more so. She insisted on taking me shopping for baby clothes and nursery decorations

This little one is going to be spoiled, she said, holding up an adorable onesie that read, Mommy’s Little Star.”

I smiled, running my fingers over the soft fabric. They’re going to be loved,” I said quietly

My mom squeezed my hand. And that’s all that matters.”

We spent hours picking out everything we needed for the nursery, from the crib to the curtains. By the time we were done, the room looked like something out of a magazine-

We spent hours picking out everything we needed for the nursery, from the crib to the curtains. By the time we were done, the room looked like something out of a magazine-

soft pastel colors, plush toys, and a rocking chair that Scott insisted we needed

One of the most memorable moments was the first ultrasound. Scott held my hand tightly as the technician spread the cool gel over my stomach

Are you ready to see your baby?she asked, smiling

Yes,” I whispered, my heart racing

As the image appeared on the screen, tears filled my eyes. There it wasour baby. A tiny little life growing inside me

Scott’s grip on my hand tightened, and when I looked over at him, he had tears streaming down his face. That’s our baby,he said, his voice thick with emotion

Yeah,I said, smiling through my tears. That’s our baby.”

The months flew by, filled with doctor’s appointments, baby showers, and latenight cravings. Scott was my rock through it all, always there to support me

When I craved pickles and ice cream at midnight, he didn’t hesitate to drive to the store to get them. When my back ached, he’d give me massages, even if it meant waking up in the middle of the night

And when I felt overwhelmed, scared of the unknown, he’d hold me close and whisper, We’re in this together. You’re not alone.”

Finally, the big day arrived

It started early in the morning with mild contractions that quickly grew stronger, Scott was a nervous wreck, rushing around the house to grab the hospital bag while I tried to keep

him calm

Scott,I said through a contraction, breathe. You’re not the one giving birth.”

I know, but I feel like I am!he said, pacing the room

When we arrived at the hospital, my mom was already there, waiting for us. She held my hand as the nurses settled me into a room, her presence calming me

The labor was long and exhausting, but Scott never left my side. He held my hand, wiped the sweat from my brow, and encouraged me every step of the way

You’re doing amazing,he said, his voice steady despite the worry in his eyes. You’re so strong, Hannah. I’m so proud of you.”

After hours of pushing and pain, the sound of our baby’s first cry filled the room. Tears streamed down my face as the nurse placed the tiny, wriggling bundle in my arms

It’s a boy,the nurse said, smiling warmly

I looked down at our son, his tiny fingers curling around mine. Hi, baby,I whispered, my heart bursting with love

Scott leaned over, his tears falling onto the baby’s blanket. “He’s perfect,he said, his voice breaking

The days that followed were filled with sleepless nights and endless joy. Scott and I worked as a team, learning how to care for our son together

One night, as I rocked the baby to sleep, Scott walked into the room, a soft smile on his

face

You’re a natural,” he said, wrapping his arms around me from behind

So are you,” I replied, leaning into him

He kissed the top of my head, his voice filled with love. Thank you, Hannah. For giving me. this family. For trusting me.”

I turned to look at him, my eyes brimming with tears. Thank you for never giving up on me.”

Watching Scott with our son filled me with a happiness I couldn’t put into words. Whether it was changing diapers, singing lullabies, or making silly faces to get the baby to smile, he poured his heart into being a father

And as I sat there, watching him cradle our son in his arms, I realized that all the pain, all the struggles we had faced, had been worth it

We had found our way back to each other, stronger than ever, and now we had a future filled with love, laughter, and the promise of a lifetime together
